Wonderful stay! Not only are the rooms beautifully appointed with antiques, but they are well maintained and comfortable. The bathroom was very modern with a huge walk-in shower. And the grounds are inviting with a large lawn, patio tables, gardens, and seating throughout. Staff was incredibly welcoming. Would absolutely go back!

While the property was lovely and well furnished and maintained, the unquestionable highlight of our stay was the gourmet breakfast prepared each day by a genial and superbly talented chef. Treat yourself to at least one night ( and breakfast) at this inn if you travel anywhere near Chester, CA, or Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Clean rooms, staff pleasant, missed breakfast. But month in bidwell room, didn’t realize that, but all good.

A really nice and slightly quirky place to stay. Staff were friendly and the facilities were good. We had the suite and it was a lovely spacious room with a lot of old work charm. Breakfast was very tasty, but only served 8:30-9:30, so too late for an early start. It is close enough to the restaurants to walk into town or a two minute drive. Lassan Volcanic park is a 30-45 minute drive away. Hint for guests: If you are planning on leaving early they will make a bagged breakfast for you the night before, but you have to order it 24 hours before. My suggestion is if you might want an early breakfast order it when booking or the day before arriving and just confirm when checking in. Hint for the hotel: In the communications with guests when booking ask if they want a packed breakfast.

Not a lot of “ nicer” places to stay in the Lassen area, this met our need and is seemingly the best act in town if not the region. Chester, overall, was disappointing as a destination but the Bigwell was very nice, breakfast a treat. Our room only had a tub and not easy to use at that - it was very difficult for my wife to use . Otherwise, no complaints.

Breakfasts were very delicious. A cookie jar full of homemade cookies was a nice touch. The sunroom and gazabo were comfy places to sit and read or enjoy a glass of wine. The grounds were lovely. The bed was comfortable; smaller, fluffier pillows would be a good update.
