My wife and I took my parents to Taroko Village Hotel, because my dad had been wanting to visit the Taroko National Park for several years. Taroko Village Hotel is a very unique hotel in that the entire hotel is made up of several large bungalows, each housing two units. Despite the fact that the hotel is up in the mountains, many of the hotel staff are very fluent in English, and they seem to target guests from the western world, because after dinner, they perform their tribal dances and present information regarding their tribe and their culture.
The photos in the hotels.com site may be a bit misleading, because the actual room is pretty tight. If you are not very keen on living with nature, you may not want to choose Taroko Village Hotel, because despite the fact that all the windows are sealed with mosquito screens, there are occasional insects and geckos that manage to get their way into the room. My mom was so freaked out by a cricket in the bathroom that she refused to go into the bathroom. Also, if you are afraid of earthquakes big and small, Taroko Village Hotel might not be the place you want to be, because it is located on a cleared field on top of a mountain, surrounded by taller mountains and very near the epicenter of the latest seismic activities in the Hualian region.
However, there is no better hotel in the Taroko National Park to surround you with fresh air and magnificent scenery all day long.
