The Green Tortoise could not have been better! We’re in our thirties so we’re hesitant about a hostel, but it far exceeded our expectations. Staff was amazing. Breakfast was perfect - they even provide eggs to cook. We loved the social environment of the common rooms and even the dorms. But best of all - the location! Right next to Pike’s Place. We will definitely stay here again.

8/10 Very good

ACCESSIBILITY: the hostel is accessed by stairs, and the rooms are up more stairs. This is not wheelchair accessible, and may be hard for those who have trouble with stairs. CLEANLINESS: All facilities, bedding, and towels were very clean. Masks were "required" but not enforced. SECURITY: There were lockers under the beds, with padlocks available to purchase/rent, as well as a locked room for larger luggage. Electronic keycards guard the dorm areas. I felt quite secure. AMENITIES: I didn't like the confusing breakfast set-up. Food was out on a "buffet", but dishes and silverware were in a different room. Eggs were advertised as being part of the breakfast, but it turned out you had to find and cook them yourself in a different room, under a sign that said "staff only". (I think the sign related to the shelf it was on, but it made me uneasy about what I could and couldn't touch!) This lack of flow led to much milling about and people bumping into each other. Buffets are not hard! Put plates/bowls on one end, then the food, then utensils at the other end. Not in different rooms! LOCATION: A mixed blessing. The Pikes Place location is loud at night. This is not the Hostel's fault, and in my opinion it's worth it to be located centrally, but you'll hear sirens and people screaming at each other while you're trying to sleep.

Honestly, I loved staying here.
I came to Seattle for a concert, and I wanted a place that was close to downtown, and very affordable. Honestly, all I wanted was a place to sleep at night, and a place to shower. I wasn't looking for much more then that. But this place was so much better then that. They were all kind and friendly people, and helped in lots of little ways. Staying there is like any other Hostel, its communal living, the rooms are shared, you have a small area to store some stuff. Its alot like going to summer camp as a kid. If none of that sounds like your thing, I understand, but I would also say it's really nice to really meet the people staying there with you, I made friends, and had many great conversations with people from all over the world. Overall, I loved being there, and will gladly stay in a Green Tortoise Hostel again on my next travels.
