Great hotel
Magnificent hotel. Lovely room and bathroom. Comfortable bed. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location in the south of the central area of the city, convenient for shops/restaurants and Kok Tobe cable car.

Good location, nice hotel.
Perfectly austere Soviet building, yet very well kept. Amazingly powerful shower, good quality bed. Tried to charge me for things from the minibar which hadn't been used, and the breakfast is not something to write home about. But I would stay again as it was fair value for money with a breathtaking view. Needs a bit of maintenance,

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL...go to Renion Park hotel!!
Horrible!!! Booked two single beds only to find out none available and had to sleep on a cot...unacceptable! Service at front desk was nothing short of abysmal. Everything was old and run done. We had laundry done and then they came up and insisted to be paid immediately instead on the room account??? Why??? Breakfast was line up hell as 7 people are waiting for the only coffee machine that makes half a cup very 3 minutes. So of course people are getting two cups. Food that is cover and should be hot are not. Omelet was there only saving grace in consistently good though a nice variety of veggies and breads and jams.

Overall nice hotel
Overall nice Soviet era feeling hotel in a good location walkable to lots of things. Has a top floor restaurant/bar with amazing views of the surrounding areas. My room was on the 19th floor with excellent views also. My first key didnt work, went downstairs for another key, that didnt work either. Bellboy went to get a 3rd key which did work. Another tourist in the hotel said this is normal in Kazakhstan. Note in the middle of summer it gets pretty hot and my room didnt have AC. It wasnt unbearable but it was probably low mid 80s in my room with dry heat. Once sun went down I opened windows and the place cooled off.

Unmotivated hotel staff
There was a huge gap in the window and the street noise came in. However I am asking myself how cold it will be in the room when the outside temperature is -20 degrees? The check-in was super super slow (30 minutes) and they asked us to sit down for no apparent reason and wait. Breakfast choice was ok. However I have never seen such unmotivated hotel staff like the hotel staff at the breakfast room of this hotel. They did not bother to clear and clean the tables and fill the buffet. Additionally if you don't speak Russian = no service. Simply terrible. The location of the hotel is good.

Awesome view from breakfast on the top floor. Could use a refresh, but otherwise worth the cost.

Incredible views
Great hotel, it retains some of the "Soviet charm" in the architecture and decorations, but it has been refurbished to very good international standards. The views are simply AMAZING, especially from the top floor breakfast room, those alone are worth the trip to Almaty!

Hotel Kazakhstan gets my approval
This used to be one of the best hotels in the city and the reception area is quite impressive, but the room however was a bit tired. Old furniture and stains in the wall are common, but I got an excellent rate on so I can't complaint. The location and the view from my window were great. Internet was very good. Some staff speak English and I loved the coffee place in the lobby, the food there was particular good, as was the excellent breakfast. Late check out was restrict; although the hotel had low occupancy they charged me about 40% of my rate for an extra 2 hours in the room.
