Great place for couples!
If you get the chance to stay here do it. Try to stay for at least 2 nights because once you arrive you will not want to leave. The staff is so kind and helpful, they made our experience truly remarkable. Breakfast and dinner are included in buffet style with lots of authentic Japanese cuisines. If you are plant-based like myself it is a little tricky but you can manage.

What a gorgeous breath of fresh air! We spent a night here between Tokyo and Kyoto, and I'm so glad we did. The onsen was super relaxing. It was fun to get to the hotel.. just a short walk across the street from that last cable car, right before you get on the boat. We got the lakeview room, and we had such a gorgeous view of the lake and the pirate ships coming and going. Beautiful birds were swooping around in the evening. The dinner wasn't my favorite as a vegetarian. This is hard in Japan. But the breakfast was outstanding. Actually the dinner was probably the most veggie friendly that we had, so for Japan it is pretty good, and it was very good for children. The staff was awesome. Super warm and inviting when you are weary from your trip. My only complain was my bed was on wheels and it moved around too much. My only regret is we didn't stay two nights, and we absolutely will come again, any time we are in Hakone!

Best serenity retreat hotel
Loved this place! Facility is updated and room is super clean. Enjoyed both the public onset and private soaking bath on balcony. Both dinner and breakfast were amazing! Location is super, right across from the facility where you can take the cable cars and cruises. Will definitely come back if we visit Hakone again.

Modern take on traditional onsen
Beautiful ryokan style hotel but very modern with lovely views of the lake, spa style onsen, and a buffet style restaurant with a huge variety of food choices. We booked a room with a private hot springs tub on the lanai: very relaxing. If you are brave enough for the traditional no-clothes hot springs (separated by gender), it was very scenic, with steam rising from vents in the surrounding garden. Most of the staff has some English, but there are occasional communication glitches. Located near the ropeway and the pirate ship port on the Hakone loop, it does take a bit to get there from the train station. We only stayed one night, so opted to carry stuff in a backpack and use the Hakone Free Pass to work our way around. We were early and our room wasn't ready, so we dropped off the backpacks and made our way around to other sights. If you do that, just be sure to leave time to get back; the ropeway and other transports stop shortly before 5 pm.
