I had fond memories of staying in this same room many years ago, and had booked it with that in mind, especially looking forward to the spa bath. I checked in fine, got to my room and went to fill the bath (with a few hairs still in it) only to find only one towel (for a room with 2 beds that sleep 3?), tried to ring for more but reception didn't answer, so left a note for the cleaners to drop off more the next day. Up early to go to a conference the next morning I try to take a shower, but am greeted with no hot water. I settle for a sponge down thinking I'll clean up in a bath once I got back 15 hours later. Nope, nearly 16 hours later no hot water is coming in the bath, and still not able to contact reception. I check the information book to see what time reception opened in the morning to be able to give this feedback, and set my alarm to give me time to get back to conference, check out and have adequate time to discuss my disappointment. However, the next morning I get to reception and find it didn't open for another 2 hours. It wasn't the only information in the information folder that was out of date. There was broken glass on the floor in the room, and cleaning wasn't to great standard in the bathroom (more hair in the shower that wasn't mine) either.

Not as good as last time
We arrived around 1.30pm which is half an hour early for a 2pm check in and advised that wasn't ok. We were however allowed to park our car after stern warning that carparks were booked and we could select from one of the unbooked spaces. Interesting there is nothing on the website to indicate this is the system. The receptionist was also charging other guests for parking...again, nothing on the website to indicate this. When we were eventually allowed into the room, requested two sets of keys and one set didn't have the entry key to the front door on it and as it transpired, didn't fit the lock to the room either and was for a neighboring room...A confusing tag system with both numbers on either sides. The room in the Lodge part of the accommodation is nicely appointed, however windows didn't shut properly and consequently the smokers using the backyard smell wafted into our room. Cleanliness - a little dusting wouldn't have gone a miss under the new tv (which hadn't been tuned for SKY and that needed to be fixed by the staff who were helpful but the manager needed to be summonsed to fix this). There was mold on the bathroom ceiling in patches which should be regularly cleaned. All in all, its okay but I wouldn't recommend this place due to the many inconsistencies for our two night stay.

Great location, price of carpark on par with others. Very tired and worn room( but tidy)- ripped wallpaper, rusted stove top, flickering lights, plug in bath had black spots, vaniety and paint peeling. Light shades full of dust, rust? marks on sheets, towels stained and makeup wash cloth had a bleach mark. Price was on the cheaper side compared to other places.

Booked this motel to attend a test match in Wellington. Next morning my regular motel contacted me to tell me a room had become available. Contacted Expedia and they asked for the booking to be undone - motel refused. I called the motel directly to ask why - they said that it was a nonrefundable booking. I pointed out most travel organisations will allow changes in the first 24 hours. The manager then told me that they don't refund because people book up the motel for busy weekends and then cancel at the last minute. I pointed out that I had only just booked (12 hours before) and by cancelling would allow them 11 days to resell the room. Completely unreasonable non logical stance taken. State of the building is just short of a dilapidated 1960's doss house. Worst accommodation I have stayed at in NZ including my student flat

Exceptional 10.0
Convenient, comfortable & friendly
The motel was easy to find. Although the parking was a bit limited, we had a free space for the night. If you wish to park a car, I would suggest informing the motel of this so that they can reserve you a space. We had a room in the older separate house at the back of the motel. It was enormous! Very quiet and comfortable, with all the usual amenities. As a Brit, I would say it was in the Edwardian style which we found charming. We ate in a great Chinese restaurant virtually next door, well recommended. The staff were friendly and helpful, with a special mention to Sue. My husband left a valuable item in our room on departure & Sue went to extraordinary lengths to reunite him with his property, eventually having it couriered to Invercargill. Thank you! I would definitely stay here again before a ferry crossing.
