Great stay
We stayed at CitizenM twice during our visit to Paris this past week and enjoyed both stays. From CDG: You could take the Le Bus Direct (Line 4) or via RER (B+A) to Gare de Lyon. We took RER because of the strike of Le Bus Direct. Take RER B from CDG, change at Chatelet-les-Halles to RER A, one stop, and get off at Gare de Lyon. Take Exit 2, and you are just 3 mins walk to hotel. Location: The hotel is literally 3 mins walk from Gare de Lyon and 5 mins walk from Gare d'Austerlitz (across the bridge). The area is alright but I wouldn't walk around alone at night because there's not much street light. The hotel street level door is only accessible with room key after certain hours at night - not sure how that would affect late check-in. Rooms: We had #904 or 1st night and #1002 (separate review) for the last 2 nights (were in South France in between). #904 is on the 9th floor with a great city view. Room is quite small with the bed against the window. Bathroom consisted with a toilet and rainfall shower. Soap is for both body and hair. Note there's no lock for bathroom; sink is placed in the room, outside of bathroom. There's a mini fridge with 2 free bottled water, but no coffee maker/kettle. Room (TV/blind/curtain/temperature) is controlled with iPad. There's a safe under the bed. Check-in & check-out: Took only 5 mins each. Staffs were onsite to help you if needed. You can pay €29 for 4pm check-out.

Staff: Super friendly-especially at the restaurant on the main floor. Everyone was very helpful when we ask for assistance. Room: We booked 2 rooms & requested they be next to each other. They were facing the front of the building (i.e...tons of traffic and everyday noise). The rooms are exactly as pictured. My mother and sister felt very cramped in their room but I was ok in mine. Very weird and a tad inconvenient that the sink was outside the bathroom & the first thing you see when you open the room door. Pro: Close to Gare de Lyon station and very nice cafes. Cute lounge area on the main floor and on the 16th floor. Con: Area not safe to walk alone at night and hotel had security at its entrance. No toiletries given-not even hand soap. Towels had black dirty lint-ish stuff all over them. We had to call down 3x for clean and new ones. Also, the food they serve is not freshly cooked. It's sent in and warmed up (for the price you are better off to walk to a cafe for fresh food). We were shocked at that but were told it's due to the fact they don't have a full kitchen (no stove). *Restaurants are in walking distance and most open late. Nice pastry shop at the end of the block when you turn right after exiting the hotel (same direction for the metro). Overall, I probably won't stay at this location again but still like the hotel brand. Note: I think it's very bad that guests have to pay for the city taxes using a debit card with a pin. Regular credit card was not allowed.

Great stay at the Citizen M
The Citizen M was one of the nicer hotels that we stayed at during our 3 weeks in France. Conveniently located only 1 block from Gare de Lyon it has metro access to all of the sites in Paris. Tip: to get to the hotel from Gare de Lyon use exit 13. When getting to street level, make a u-turn, walk 1 block parallel to the station. The Citizen M should be visible less than a block away. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I can’t say enough nice things about all of the people working there. The room had a very comfortable, king size bed, mini fridge and safe. It also had several English language TV stations and free English movies – something we never used given that we were more interested in exploring Paris. We found the breakfast a bit expensive at 16 euros each and found reasonably priced, very good cafes across from the station. We had dinner there the first night we arrived. It was decent and reasonably priced. The only negative was the bed. It was up against the wall meaning that you either had to sleep sideways on the bed (it was large enough to accommodate my 6 foot body) or if you slept normally, someone had to crawl over the other person to exit the bed. Pluses: Convenient location, friendly, helpful staff, very reasonably priced, good attention to detail, great bed. Negatives: Bed is poorly positioned for a couple.

This hotel sells itself on trendy design and technology which is great when it works. Unfortunately diring our stay it was less than perfect. In our room everything from TV lights to air con to window blinds was controlled as a Smart system by ipad but there was a charging issue so nothing worked. The lifts were also in and out of action during our stay and on the last night the lighting lifts and wifi went down. There were no announcements about this and no notices put on the lifts. We had to actively seek information about what was happening and we were also not informed when it was rectified. Communication was very poor. We had booked two rooms and had to check into both individually, this was time consuming and incurred rwo sets of charges on our card. The rooms allocated because of this were nowhere near each other so we had to wait again whilst new rooms were allocated. Self service check in therefore not ideal. The beds whilst comfy are situated sideways on in the room meaning the person nearest the window has to clamber over the other person to get out if sharing as a double. Breakfast was excellent but there was not enough dining space some mornings and so low level seating necessitated eating from a tray on our laps. The hotel was very clean throughout.

Modern friendly hip.
We had a room on the 11th floor with a view of the Eiffel Tower. The room is small with a king size bed that is somewhat difficult for an older couple to get in and out of because there is only one side not by a wall. I was impressed with the efficient design of the room considering the size. There are different levels of lighting but no good night light for using the bathroom etc., and the mood lighting is really weird. You can do self check-in but there are friendly people there to help you and answer questions. There is no coffee in the room but they do have hot water in restaurant that we used for our own instant coffee. The buffet breakfast is great, very extensive choices and they will make you any kind of coffee you want, and there is a small refrigeration case in there that has beer, coke, sandwiches and snacks and is open 24/7.
