Good 6.0
The hotel itself is clean and acceptable. The staff was friendly enough. The room is just what you pay for. However it seemed to be in a sketchy alley with some shady looking business happening. Also, there was women screaming here, seemingly in distress and made me feel on edge. Kind of a scary experience. This was literally the first time I’ve felt truly unsafe Japan.

Clean and cozy, far from city hub but close to HND
The inn is really close to Kamata Station, which makes transit to and from the airport incredibly convenient and fast (probably a 20 minute bus ride from Bus Stop #0 on the East Exit of Kamata Station). However, it takes at least 45 minutes to get to the main city areas, like Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ueno, Asakusa, etc. Therefore you'll have to wake up early to get to where you need to go. The room itself was the perfect size for my solo trip, a nice spacious bed with a cozy ambience that didn't feel cramped at all. I was always exhausted from walking around all day, so it was nice to come back to such a comfortable little room. It is a residential district, and some nights police sirens would go off or trucks would make loud noises doing some kind of construction work at 3 AM or so. If you're tired enough like I was though, you'll basically sleep through it. Nearby guests on my floor were quiet and respectful. Breakfast is just some light biscuits, bananas, and tea, so if you need something substantial I would recommend walking to the nearby Yoshinoya (open 24/7) and taking the hotel breakfast to-go as an after meal snack. If you're going to see the city all day, you're going to need a lot more than what the hotel provides. Overall, a wonderful room in a slightly inconvenient location for tourism, but extremely convenient for entering and leaving Tokyo. I'd stay here again for the affordable price and overall great sense of ambience and relaxation.

Exceptional 10.0
Great new, clean hotel in Tokyo suburbs
Hotel is a typical Tokyo one in size ie small rooms but that is the norm .The room is totally functional however with space saving ideas so it compensates ie electrical sockets just where you need them for eg charging and usage by the bed, desk etc. So many hotels have awkwardly placed ones but not here. Hotel and room very modern (new?), exceptionally clean and tidy, aircon and wifi was great, bed comfy. It is a budget style ie hangers on wall rack rather than a wardrobe but I really liked it as was quite stylish and new. Only issue for me was that being 6 feet tall the very small capsule style/size bathroom was a challenge so I did bang head and arms when moving in it as not used to such confined spaces and my head was 6 cm short of the ceiling in the shower - had to bend down to wet my hair as shower fixture was at chest height. Eventually got used to it but still had to enter bathroom sideways as door too narrow to walk in straight. It was mostly quiet but there is a fire station on the corner nearby and I heard the sirens loudly a couple of times every eve when it was called out. Only once woken in the night by them going off. Staff are very helpful and friendly, Breakfast is not a sit down/buffet affair, The lobby has a small area with high tables (no chairs to sit on) and only a round couch nearby if you need to sit down, Items are 3 types of pastries, bananas, OJ, apple juice, milk, tea and coffee, and that's it. It is thus a minimal type but replenished fully.

Very Convenient
My stay at the Red Roof Inn was very wonderful. It was comfortable, there’s a convenient laundry room on the 7th floor, and it’s only a stone’s throw from Kamata Station. Since the station was so close, I was able to travel and see greater Tokyo without much effort. I have been to other hotels where I’ve needed to walk or take a taxi quite a ways to the station. So this was a nice break. Breakfast is a little small (I usually had the bread, milk and banana option), but the room was very clean, stylish and comfortable. I liked the fact that you could control the AC and that you get a nice cold bottle of water at the end of the day in your fridge when you get back to your room. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for the convenience and cost savings. Though, it is a little far from the airport, so make sure you have your travel accommodations in line before considering this hotel. I had a large luggage so I had a hard time taking it on the train. I wasn’t sure if they had luggage delivery services. If not, I would probably consider going to a hotel near a station with an airport limousine bus.

Excellent value, clean/comfortable rooms
Very clean and comfortable hotel. We stayed one night after traveling across the country for 2 weeks. We actually wish we had stayed here at the start of our trip instead of an apartment in Shibuya, which was the same price per night but much smaller, less clean, and with less amenities. The room/bathroom in this hotel were small but that's standard for Japan and we didn't mind. Staff was friendly and spoke English. They held our bags for us even after we checked out. Location is easily accessible on the JR line and just a couple stops to connect to the Yamanote line. Easy access to the airport. The one downside we encountered was that the hallway was pretty echo-y so guests coming and going were sort of loud. Didn't affect our sleep though.
