Better than other reviews suggest
Mine was a short notice booking for one night. I was pleasantly surprised, given previous reviews. Although the reception area is a bit sparse, the hall and the room itself was clean and in a good state of decoration. The room, while basically furnished, was comfortable. It, and the bathroom, were spotless. Big TV with all the Freeview channels, hairdryer and tea-making (albeit no teabags or coffee!). Nice and warm in a cold January - with adjustable heating. The key selling point is the brilliant location, less than ten minutes walk from the station and bang in the middle of town. Yes, there was some early traffic noise - but this is a city centre, so traffic is to be expected. Because of my short notice booking there was a brief confusion about my reservation but the receptionist was very polite and helpful and quickly sorted things out. Just one caveat - the entrance is difficult to spot and took me a while to find, but there are signposts overhead; also, no breakfast, but plenty of options nearby. Not a place for a romantic stay but perfectly fine for a couple of nights business trip or out-and-about tourism. Fair value, especially given location and other prices nearby.

Poor 2.0
The most terrible hotel experience
The hotel didn't have a proper layout. It even lacked the basic facilities such as elevator. I had to carry my luggage two floors by the stairs. The house keeping service was very poor. They didn't change the towel over the three days I stayed there. Moreover, the staff were neither trained nore available. But, the worst happened to me on the last day of my stay. I came back to the hotel at 1 Am but the key which was provided to me didn't open up the main door. I spent 45 mins trying to open it up and ringing the bell in the hope that somebody would come and get me but it never happened. I ended up going to another hotel spending 250 pound for few hours only to avoid the cold weather outside. To sum it up it was my worst experience of all time.

Handy for the sights but not the quietest!
When we arrived (1540) the door was locked and no one answered when we rang the door bell. We tried phoning with no answer. We decided to pop into the pub across the road and wait. We phoned several times with again no answer. After about 20 mins we got an answer at the door and could check in. The reception is not manned 24hrs as we discovered when we left! The hotel is right in the town centre and is good for visiting. The rooms were clean with coffee tea facilities. Unfortunately the toilet was still dirty from the previous occupants! Unfortunately the windows in our room were single panes of glass and were could hear all the conversations and altercations from the pub across the street... all night! Overall it was OK, clean and the bed was comfy.

Crumpled clothing
I arrived late evening, desk was staffed, I was wearing a Bindi, man asked if I was Indian I said yes, Indian origin, but I’m African born and in UK for 50 years. He asked if I had relatives in India, I said yes cousins etc but, my immediate family is here in the UK. I asked where he was from he said Afghanistan. I wandered if this was going to be an indication of how my stay may go, as Afghanistan had wiped out all its Hindus!! So far, the bed is comfy, the room cosy, though noisy, activity outside starts at 5.30am, so probably needs triple glazing to keep the noise out. One of the tea cups is cracked, but at least there is one good one to drink out of. I asked about an ironing board, twice, it was not where I was first told, and it’s not been brought to outside my room as promised on the 2nd asking. I checked outside my room regularly till I checked out, no ironing board or iron appeared, until I checked out. Bathroom had hair on the floor which were not mine.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
The room was really noisy, I had zero sleep. Rooms ok but a but dirty, shabby, unfinished. There was not even a lampshade, a random door handle was tied to the radiator (???) and curtain tie backs were hanging off the walls. I booked a taxi for 8am in the morning, but it never turned up, there was no-one on reception to ask, and all in all it was a pretty bad start to my day. Would definitely NOT stay here again.
