Good for now...could be great someday!
There is much to like about the newly renovated Emperor Hotel. A kind manager gave me permission to cancel a room despite it not being cancellable. The location is minutes away from everything but not in the heart of everything where it would be difficult to sleep and rest. The setup is also nice. The bellboy always holds the door for you, there is a big bowl of fruit with candies and sweets waiting for you at the elevator, the elevators are super fast, and the hallways feature comfy, cozy carpet on the floor and the wall. The rooms are super clean, spacious, and modern. (They even feature a smartphone!) The gym is also fantastic. Nonetheless, there is room for improvement, especially among the staff. Before speaking to her manager about cancelling, the lady would not budge on making any changes to the reservation. Another lady wrongfully told us that to book a short distance taxi we would have to fork over an additional 50 HKD surcharge. I ended up getting yelled at by one of the cooks who insisted I was crazy for wanting vegetables on my omelet. Not to say that breakfast was all that stellar anyway. The day they had dried scallop congee with steamed pork buns, I was all smiles, but other than that, there was little else to look forward to other than the same soggy, greasy fried noodles and rice. Shuttle service was a joke, and the sprinkler light atop our room wouldn't stop flashing. The Wi-Fi also sucked. All in all, I think it will be great someday. Just give it time.

Nice new hotel, but no desk space in room...
A very nice new hotel, currently with very competitive room rates, with breakfast included. Staff is courteous and accommodating. Room cleaning standard seems hit-of-miss, depending on the day and who did it. Some days it was clear the room carpet was not vacuumed at all. I had a decent size room on one of the upper floors. The room dimension was not rectangular. The wall facing my double bed was at an angle, and the flat screen TV on that wall cannot be adjusted, so sitting/lying in bed I was watching TV at an (to me) unnatural angle. There is no desk at all in the room. There is a very small coffee table which my laptop would entirely cover, and a very low small couch. There is Wi-Fi n the room, but if you want to do any work in the room, the setup is terrible. There is also no common space where I could have sat comfortably to read or do some computer work for a while. I guess they figure no one comes to stay in the hotel needing or wanting to just hang out at the hotel. Access to public transport is okay. On foot it's about 10-15 minutes to either Wan Chai MTR or Causeway Bay MTR station. Most people with modern smartphones and GPS can handle the navigation, but you will need that at least the first time or two, unless you already know your way around.

Good 6.0
Newer hotel but small and with major flaw
Stayed there twice within a 3 week span. The first room was absolutely horrible. As reviewed by one other, the smoke detector right above the bed flashes every 15 sec. The internet router between the bed underneath the night table blinks green and red. It is unnoticeable during the day but when the night comes and lights are turned off, you literally get a nonstop symphony of light show. We complained twice to the staff who said there is nothing they can do. Wrote them an email went unanswered. When checked in the second time as it was prebooked and prepaid, they gave us a slightly better room. They have obviously received enough complaints as the flash lights of the smoke detector was duct taped. Room size is considered very small even by my lenient standard. Took us a while to figure out where the closet is. Staff were ok. Hotel provide cell phone that can hotspot but you can only dial out, it doesn't have a number to receive incoming calls. They don't promote shuttle service but they do. I have seen two hotel guests running to get a bus and kept cursing, I hate this hotel. Location wise it is not the best unless you have been to Hong Kong before and knows the place well to go about.

We had an overall a pleasant stay for our year-end holidays. pros: - The building is new and the room was very nice. - Staff speaks English and is friendly. cons: - The room was fairly cold. The aircon apparently only cools the room down. Setting it to 25C didn't help, turning it off resulted in the most bearable room temp. - The wi-fi is inconvenient to use - every time you turn your phone screen off, you have to log in again by entering room nr. and password. - Some basic amenities like hand soap were missing (but added the next day when we left a note). - Only 1 toilet paper roll and they don't add a new one even when it's running low - you have to call room service every time you run out. - Huge line at the breakfast buffet as pointed out by previous comments. There's basically 60 seats for 200+ rooms. It meant queuing for up to 30 minutes - we even saw people being turned away after waiting because breakfast time was over. - Buffet is located in the hotel lobby with its main door being open constantly, letting in the freezing wind - better bring your winter jacket for queuing and being assigned seats close to the entrance. - Airport shuttle is advertised in a lobby pamphlet - but staff told us it's not available, so we had to call a taxi. It was Jan 2nd. so we were ready to accept the service being unavailable, but on our way out we noticed that a shuttle bus that looked the exact same as in the pamphlet was picking up people at the hotel next-door.

Nice new hotel of great price, will recommend
I went to HK with my daughter n stayed in this hotel on Dec 31 n Jan 1st. This hotel is very new, n the decor is very modern. The first night the room is very tiny that I could hardly open the closet door. I reflected that to the front desk n they were helpful n willing to arrange another room with decent size. We were both happy. I did not look carefully that only 1 breakfast buffet was included for each night. The breakfast buffet is tasty and the selection is good, above average. The location is a bit far from Causeway Bay where most shopping areas n eateries located. They do have free shuttle bus service but operate on limited hours. There is cemetery behind but all rooms facing the other side n we don't have a problem with that. They have a Chinese restaurant on site but we have got a chance to try. We may try on our next visit though as we heard later that onsite chinese restaurant is great. We are frequent travelers n stayed in the other two hotels next to it. This hotel is much better in price and quality than the other two. We will be back on Feb n look forward to go to their rooftop lounge which should be opened by then.
