Great location, great old hotel!
Great location; easy walk to the Pantheon, Luxembourg, the Cluny. Slightly longer walk to Montparnasse Ave and cemetery, Musee D’Orsay and elsewhere. Bus stop right outside and a tres bon patisserie beside the hotel (not open on weekends) The beds and pillows were very comfortable and the bathroom was large (although the shower was not). We recommend this hotel!

It was Thanksgiving week and this was the cheapest. Great area in the Latin Quarter. Quick walk from the Luxembourg station. Checking in was easy. You do have to hang your room key when you leave the hotel each day, which is a bit weird. Upon checking in and settling in for a nap, someone opened my hotel room door and started speaking very loudly, almost yelling. I had no idea how this person got access nor do I know if this was an employee. I assumed she was an employee, but was very awkward nonetheless. A very dated hotel, but it gives you the feel of being in Paris perhaps. Food locations nearby. Maybe a 20-minute walk to Cathedrale de Notre Dame. 5-minute walk to Luxembourg station. Taxi stand not too far away. A bus stop right in front, which makes public transportation very easy.

Fair 4.0
Very tired guest room.
The baseboards in the bathroom were filthy and the box springs under the mattresses were not covered by the dated bedspreads. Windows painted shut and very tired looking room that hasn’t been updated for many years. The bed was comfortable however, and the bathroom was large in comparison to the room.

Poor 2.0
Bed bugs
I was extremely disappointed with my stay in this hotel. My friend and I both were appalled at finding bed bugs under our pillow and coming out of the pillow. When we went down to reception to express our disgust the man did not seem overly bothered. We were moved to another room but we were unable to relax after that. The room was not cleaned properly and the duvets had an old musty smell. The toilet and shower were dirty and when we opened the toilet lid there was a massive cockroach in the toilet. The beds were hard and uncomfortable. The window also did not close properly so it was hard to control the temperature of the room and it was very noisy at night. I would definitely avoid this hotel in the future.

Perfect for transport links.
We were looking for a basic hotel for a short stay and Hotel Gay Lussac was just right. It was a five minute walk from the RER, and main bus routes. It was a ten minute walk from the river, where you could get the Batobus (hop on hop off ferry) to the main attractions (louvre, notre dame, Eiffel tower). There was a fabulous bakery almost next door with a great choice of pasteries and rolls either for breakfast or bring off with you for lunch. As we were only staying for a short break we only needed somewhere to sleep and shower (to many places to see in Paris), Hotel GAY- LUSSAC was just right. Oh, and the fabulous Luxembourg gardens were just a few minutes walk away, where you could just chill out have an ice cream and relax.
