Convenient to the METRO
Very friendly and helpful desk staff; super convenient location steps away from the Metro. Rooms are small, but efficient and the staff offer assistance if any items are not regularly stocked in the room. For an evening stay before a long day on business or personal matters, Motto delivers.

Loud neighborhood and thin windows
I have stayed at Mottos before, so my issue is not with the tiny room (which is what I expected). Rather it is the property is on a sketchy street with a lot of people gathering outside making a lot of noise. The police were coming by frequently with sirens to get them to move away, but the street noise nonetheless pierced through the windows. That compounded by a bathroom fan that was loud and could not be turned off made it an impossible situation for sleeping. While the front desk promised to have an engineer come up, by 11:30pm it was clear it wasn't happening; and I left for a different hotel in a safer and quieter neighborhood.

Weirdly expensive
H Street full of homeless and dangerous types, particularly in the PM--which is why they keep front door locked 24/7 I guess. I would never recommend to solo woman traveler for safety reasons. Also seems like a LOT of money when consider that, and that rooms have no minifridge, no coffee maker, no room service. Vibe in rooms and lobby ok--the cafe is slow but nice. But hallways kind of gray and gloomy for a brand new place, and choice of hard floors questionable--you hear a pin drop upstairs.

Tiny room!
I arrived late on Monday night after a long flight from San Diego and was greetef qith the news that my room had been given to someone else! Fortunately the staff was very gracious and had areanged and paid foena room down the street but this left me to walk down the street by myself with my luggage in tow late at night in a not so great area. Then the next night i reutned to Motto since the Fairfield was booked and I am not exaggerating when I say I was shocked when I opened the door to my room...it was literally matchbox size! I could barely get my luggage in the room or walk around the bed. I have never stayed in such a tiny room! I am so not happy with this experience...and won't stay here again. If it were a bargain price it might have been different but it was not.

Sketchy Block
I've never seen such a small hotel room and rarely paid more for one. This place is very pricey for basically a bed in a closet. More importantly, the block it's on is a sketchy oasis. If you go a block in any direction, the area greatly improves, so there's a convenience factor there. I stayed 3 nights and not ONCE (no exaggeration) did I or anyone in my group come or go from the hotel without seeing cops talking to the dozens of shady people loitering and doing drugs all along the sidewalks all day long. All the shops nearby have constant security guards. I saw and heard multiple drug deals going down and somebody died while I was there. We overheard a woman near the ambulance right in front of the hotel complaining that she was sick of spending all her time with drug dealers and that now she'd have to attend some guy's funeral. Her exact words, "I'm sick of this and tempted to go get a job!" I will add that no one threatened our group or really even approached them, so we got used to it by the end of our stay and felt relatively safe. Probably due to the heavy police presence.
