Very impressive property for the price. The restaurant was delicious and the on-site activities were fun.

Location close to volcano, property surrounded by its own mosaic of cloud forest, rivers, fir forest, beautiful gardens, frog ponds, cattle and horse pasture and meadows - all linked by well maintained trails. Staff professional and friendly. First rate food - breakfasts as specially prepared as the lunch and dinners. Great cocktails and fresh fruit juices. A lot of wildlife. Rooms fresh airy and dry (often a rarity in this region which is characterized by cloud forest rain). Nothing to complain about at all. Indeed we have rebooked for February.

This was the most amazing hotel I have ever stayed and I am a world traveller. The volcano views are just beautiful. The breakfast and service was top notch excellent. Best part of this property was the hiking trails with spectacular views, waterfalls, frog pond and coatis roaming all around the beautiful landscaped gardens. I highly recommend staying here.

AOL is a unique and beautiful property, with it's own hiking trails, restaurant and museum on site. Our room, #29 offered a large private balcony with huge picture windows and an incredible view of the volcano & rain forest. We watched monkeys in the morning and early evening swinging from tree to tree while sitting on our balcony and observed so many birds including toucans! Our room was basic but lovely. Front desk and restaurant staff were excellent and food very good. Our room was cleaned daily with a new towel surprise on our bed. We drove ourselves from SJO, it is a beautiful drive and the road to the lodge is fine as long as you take it easy in a few spots. We hiked most of the trails on the property, the waterfall is beautiful and the frog pond at night is so much fun! We had one headlamp and 1 flashlight. We took the free morning walk and the guide was amazing. Pointing out an eyelash pit viper, a howler monkey, frogs, toucans and a chameleon, all within an hour and a half. I would definitely recommend this lodge if you are looking for a peaceful adventure in the middle of the rainforest!
