Poor 2.0
I would be very careful when booking this hotel. We arrived after lunch, were booked in and paid for our room. We were then given two keys to access the black gate and the black door - up the road. We followed instructions but in hindsight we should have refused or gone back and demanded our money refunded. We went into a room which was part of a house up the road, It was dingy with brown dirty curtains, it had wallpaper falling off the walls, there were cracks in the ceiling, the bed was a three quarter bed and not a double, the mattress was so old that when you sat on the bed you could feel the bed boards below and it was badly stained also. There were cables running all over the floor underneath the table on the wall. The door even when locked left a gap of about half an inch so was there was a big gap between the door and the architrave. The bathroom was dated and mouldy in parts, the shower head was held together with what looked like elastic bands. There was a fan on the floor of the room. We did not use it although the room was extremely hot and when we opened the window during the night we were greeted with revellers outside the room. We later found out that the upstairs room was also let to Central Hotel customers and we had to listen to them all night. We had no sleep at all and did not go for breakfast as this was back up the road in the main hotel building. We complained when checking out/young man on reception was very understanding.

Better than expected
I choose Central Hotel due to its central, easy location as well as its cheap price. Some of the reviews made it sound a little undesirable but I took the chance and wasn't disappointed. Sure, it's not a high luxury apartment but you would be silly to expect that at this price. What I did get was friendly service from the landlord who was happy to assist, a good sized single room with a view of the river, ensuite, tv, heater if you're cold, comfortable bed and a great nights sleep. No noise. Then a full English breakfast plus cereal and drinks for only £5. Bargain I say. (I was in the annex not the main hotel.) Definitely worth staying here for an overnight or wkend trip if need to be close to the station or on a bit of a budget.

Comfortable and clean
A cheap and cheerful place, my economy single room was small but warm, comfortable, and just what I needed for a one-night stay before a conference. Incredibly close to the train station and short walking distance to the castle and cathedral. My only issues were a) no hair dryer in the room (but my own fault for not bringing one) and b) I couldn't get any hot water for my morning shower! Not sure if there was a switch to press to enable this and I was just being dumb, but I tried various ways of turning the shower controls to no avail - I'm sure the hotel staff would have been helpful, but sadly I had gotten up late, so had my cold shower and headed out to work without time to raise it with the hotel.

Fair 4.0
I’ve stayed at this hotel before and been very satisfied. The location is excellent; the rooms spotlessly clean and, for a budget hotel, the rooms acceptably comfortable. During this stay I was in room 28 inthe annex. To start with there was a dark corridor fo get into the main part of the room with a step down that was ‘tobvious. I fell but suffered nothing worse than bruised knees. Much more significant was that there was no soundproofing between room 28 and room 27. Arriving in after sork at 6:00 I was treated to the guest in the next room’s telephone conversation. He shouted and swore a lot. He was trying to get his partner to come to him. Unfortunately he succeeded and I was the an unwilling audience to them fighting until 2:30 am when she finally left. They ignored banging on the wall from other guests and carried on loudly swearing and weeping for hours. The hotel did nothin apparent to try to control their behaviour, I was half asleep at work the next day due to a very unrestful night M

Great value and great location
Just had a couple of days to re-explore the city I used to live in many years ago, so the location was perfect for just crossing the river and walking the few minutes to the centre, cathedral etc. A parking permit was freely available and the staff were very friendly and helpful. My single room in the annexe was larger than expected, and very comfortable. My only comment was that the sliding shower door only provides a quite narrow space to get in and out. Wasn't a problem for me but could be a bit of a problem to any rather more cuddly guest! But a great value place to stay.
