The staff were lovely and helpful, room was very big, WiFi was reliable and worked within our room and by the pool. Breakfast is fantastic - choice of tradition Sri Lankan cuisine and/or Western dishes with a wide range of options for both. Also appreciated that breakfast starts at 6.30am, which means you can enjoy the buffet and still make an early train. There was a very slight smell in the toilet and doona cover felt damp when we first arrived. Room service were quick to change the doona and sheets for us.

Like a little resort quite close to central Colombo. Maintains a colonial era feel. An historic building and part of Sri Lanka’s story. Friendly, helpful staff. An excellent breakfast with a wide variety of options.

We loved our stay at the Galle Face Hotel and found the facilities very good but with the price payable for a room , we felt the service in some areas could have been a little better. Overall staff were delightful and very attentive and the restaurants and bars were lovely with good choice of food and drinks and very reasonably priced. Beware of King of Mambo though - we made a booking for 7 people and when we arrived for a birthday dinner, our table had been given away ...not happy and staff weren't too concerned.

I liked the old world grandeur and atention to detail. I didnt like that our room was not suitable for what we thought we had booked on line and when I asked for it to be changed we wre charged an extra $200, when I hear other people with the same issue getting an upgrade for free.

Traditional srilankan food was good. There was no map to find where the gym and some rooms were located I had to take steps to go to my room which was inconvenient Very old bathrooms gave bad smell often

I’ve stayed at the Galle Face Hotel several times over the years and always find the atmosphere and old world charm delightful. This time we had a landmark room with a balcony and a sea view, which was lovely. The bed was very comfortable and breakfast buffet with Sri Lankan options was very tasty.

Let me be clear right from the start: I love the Galle Face Hotel. It's a grand colonial hotel restored to within an inch of its life. The staff are courteous and seem to love working there and its location one end of Galle Face Green, by the sea, is terrific because it's not boxed on by other buildings. But when we checked in a few days ago for three nights we were taken aback by the requirement that they preauthorise $200 USD on your credit card which in all my travels staying at luxury hotels throughout the world is unheard of. Remember that this hotel was booked on Expedia and paid in full with breakfast. Do they think that we'll run off without paying for meals and drinks, smuggling our luggage out past reception early one morning? Do they distrust us? Are we going to take any opportunity not to pay? They're letting themselves down badly by this archaic and offensive business practice. I actually think that the reception staff are embarrased when they ask for this bond. Oh well, maybe the Chairman and CEO will read this and reconsider. In the meantime I'll be staying somewhere else.

Lovely colonial hotel, loved the location and the history and ‘olde world’ charm. Enjoyed the high tea - great value. Would definitely recommend a stay here

This was a classic old school hotel that I wanted to check off my bucket lists of hotels, and it was so worth it. I was there 2 weeks after the latest bombings and security was tight, but that was also comforting. Well worth the stay.
