Bait and Switch SCAM SCAM. Get what you paid for
We had booked the superior Triple room based on the photos provided on We have stayed at this hotel previously so were familiar with the room types. After 30 hours of travel from Australia the hotel provided us with their standard far cheaper and far SMALLER room with an extra bed squeezed in. This left no room to sit or even unpack suitcases. I went straight down and complained that the room provided was not what was ordered and paid for. The room we ordered was far larger with a lounge and extra chairs. After about an hour of arguing with the staff the hotel supplied the room we paid for but not till the following day. The people at the reception were far from helpful and it was like dealing with a SCAM artist. The site was very clear about the room the amenities and the size. If you look at the site be sure you get the room you paid for. The room we eventually received was exactly as displayed on

Ask for air conditioned room in Summer !
First the positives: Great location just next to the Cologne main railway station, and the Dom. So easy access to food and drinks at the station as well as nearby shopping areas. Room was spacious enough, including the bathroom. Negatives: No air conditioner, nor even simple ventilation (vents are intentionally boarded up shut) and the only air comes by opening the double glazed window which then becomes very very noisy with trains and buses running throughout the day and evenings as well as early mornings. Apparently only the larger rooms at the corner of the floors have air conditioning. Luckily on this summer day it was not too hot (26C during the day, 21C at night), so we had to open the window despite the noise. No fridge in the room. So if you want a cold cold drink, need to buy at the stalls at the station. Receptionists (on both shifts when we checked in and checked out) were not so friendly or warm. Altho buffet breakfast offered at EUR7.50 each we opted to buy our morning snacks at the station's cafe which suited our needs. Bottom line: if staying during the summer, either ask for the rooms with air conditioning (probably cost more) or be prepared for sweltering evenings. Price for the location is otherwise ok.

Near station, good breakfast, but room cramped.
Staff were wonderful and were helpful. Hotel was just across the road from railway station, and we had a great view of the cathedral from our room, but the double bed was against the wall so felt a bit confined. We could not change channels on tv so only had a German channel. The room was warm and we had no airconditioning, the window did open but the noise of the constant rail traffic was quite noisy. We purchased the buffet breakfast and found a good and healthy range of foods and drinks.

Pleasant 3 night stay in Colonge
We had a fantastic check in experience and were given a map of the local area with directions to various Christmas Markets in the area. We were within walking distance to everything and had a pleasant few days exploring the city and staring in awe of the beautiful cathedral. Breakfast in the hotel each morning was pleasant and convenient and overall we loved our stay in Cologne because we had such a welcoming place to come back to.
