Arcadia House

Had I not looked at the rest of Arcadia House I would have given a MUCH lower overall rating. I had the room Turtle Diver, which was dark and pokey and had a (perfectly clean but) dated and not well designed add-on bathroom fitted into the adjacent verandah. Our time at Byron Bay also coincided (unbeknownst to me at the time I booked, silly me) with a music festival. Thus the prices were inflated above normal, so I was doubly disappointed at the quality of the room. The contrast between this room and the other rooms is enormous. I saw other rooms in the house which looked lovely -- light, spacious, well appointed. The manager was gracious and helpful, and responsive to communication. Location was great (away from the town, so quiet, but within easy walking distance of both town and beach). The bicycles, which guests are allowed to use, were in dreadful condition and not well maintained at all. I also think the whole experience would have been enhanced by a having a kitchenette for the use of guests. While there are nice seating areas in other rooms, Turtle Diver was too dark and dismal to stay in for even a cup of morning coffee. What a pity I didn't stay in another room! And paid normal rather than inflated prices!

Booked for 2 nights but left after first night. Cockatoo room has a strange unpleasant smell. First impression wasn’t good - the veranda and furniture looked shabby. Our room - no6 smells - and there were cobwebs in the ceiling. The ‘bathroom’ for this room is at the opposite end of the corridor and was a cramped wc and shower. The shared fridge was located in the hall which any one off the street could access ( the front door was left open and no staff on site). It was noisy, could hear everything the couple in the next room were saying and doing. No plug socket near the mirror so couldn’t see when drying hair. Tv in the corner which you couldn’t watch when lying on bed because of the curtains. This room just doesn’t justify the hefty price tag.

Very disappointed with our stay here. The room was tiny with literally no space to move around, it was only 2 of us with 1 medium suitcase. The room also had no windows - so it felt very claustrophobic. Service was so so, not explained clearly in the description that it's a self-contained apartment with no room service or towels! If i wanted an Air B&B experience I would have gone to them direct (even with air b&b you get more then 1 towell!) On the plus side the location is great!

Ok...it may not be that secret as it’s on here but I can honestly say this is the best accommodation I have stayed in in Australia. As well as the quiet location it is immaculate and has a fantastic homely feel to it. The rooms are clean and well catered for with quality furniture, bedding and amenities. The style is slightly olde world with a ranch style. Guests have access to a ‘posh’ coffee making machine, chilled water, drink making facilities, magazines, glasses, a veranda; with comfy chairs to chill out with a drink in the early morning or late evening sun and the house is sufficiently sheltered by trees and bushes that are not imposing. The ‘landlady’ is lovely, polite, knowledgeable and helpful and made my stay a needed relaxing break. There is sufficient parking and it is only a few minutes walk into the centre of Byron. In short...I’d live here if I could.

Great property in top location. Quiet but close to the action. 10-15 minute walk to beach (the road stops as a road,but carries on as a track), 15 minute walk to town. Our room was lovely. No fridge in room but communal fridge in hallway works just fine. Manager Rooney was helpful and friendly.
