Nice room with handy location
We stayed here on a Friday night before heading back to Canberra by bus on Saturday afternoon. Nice big comfortable room. It is a stone's through from Central Station (which is also where the Canberra bus departs) and the George Street tram is right out the front. So it is very well located for transport. There is a good cheap Thai restaurant almost next door and a good breakfast place across the road between George and Pitt Street near the station. Good bathroom with nice toiletries. Reasonably quiet. The TV was a glass cube with a smallish LED screen stuffed inside the guts of an old cathode ray tube TV. Art perhaps, but not a very functional TV as it was small screen with some of the picture cut off and distorted by the old TV screen. I would have preferred something you don't have to squint at and that could be watched from the bed. The other potential issue is that there is a big gap between the blinds so the sun shines right in on the bed - which not make for a sleep in. As it was I had some bulldog clips and so was able to close the gap. The staff are nice but there are only 2 of them and reception is largely un-staffed. This caused a bit of anxiety when we came back to pick up our bags and no one answered the bell to let us in for about 15 minutes (and the did not answer the phone either). Subject to these limitations I would be happy to stay there again.

Poor 2.0
No air conditioning and unhelpful staff
We chose to stay at this hotel because of the price and the fact that it had air conditioning. When we arrived the room didn't get cold very quickly, but we thought it would get cold over night. It didn't. In the morning we couldn't find any staff in the reception area despite looking several times over an hour. We decided to talk to them after the days sightseeing. The staff member came up to our room and said "it is working fine". It was not. It was 25 degrees Celsius in the room despite the AC being set to 16. We were told we could get another room after dinner. After dinner we were told we could not change room because someone else was checking in the next day and we could either stay or we could check out (not a good option at 9pm). We stayed and the next morning we talked to the manager. She promised they would get a service person in today to fix the AC, so we didn't move to another hotel. That evening when we got back, they said the AC was fixed. It was not. The manager then told us a long story about how the repair person said their central AC system was not very good and they couldn't do anything to fix it. We decided to check out the next day (2 days early) as it was really too hot to sleep in the room. The person at the front desk then said more guests had been complaining so they were going to get a repair person in during the afternoon. Did they not have one the day before? We were too tired to argue and just left.

Exceptional 10.0
When I walked into the hotel at 11 am, I was a bit taken aback. There was unfinished sheet rock taped to the ceiling in the lobby and it was a bit dark. The receptionist told my that check in was at 2:30 and I could check my bags with him until then. I asked if there was a lounge or a cafe in the hotel where I could wait until check in, as I had just gotten off a 9 hour flight and I was quite tired. I was told the hotel had no restaurant or lounge; however, he would check to see if there was a room ready. Luckily, there was. I was given room 4-1, a corner room that was full of tall windows. The room was long and, with the shades up, very bright and clean. The bed was perfectly made and very comfy. The bathroom was gorgeous, with a large shower that had amazing water pressure. Housekeeping came everyday and brought fresh towels and made the bed. I was pleasantly surprised by the room, considering my first impression was not the best. The hotel is perfectly located on George St., close to the CBD and diagonally across from the Central Terminal where buses and trains pass through. It's a 15 minute walk to the Sydney Tower and 25 minute walk to Darling Harbour / King Street Wharf where you'll find tons of restaurants, a mall, and the Sea Life Aquarium, Zoo and Madam Tousauds. GREAT HOTEL for a GREAT PRICE

Suits my needs
This is a small Hotel just off George Street at Railway Square. There is 24 hour reception. A lift services all floors. Rooms are quite big and functional. Bathrooms are well set up with a large shower recess. There is always good supply of hot water. I stay there because of the proximity to Central Station.

Fair 4.0
Less than meets the eye
This tiny 15-room self-styled 'boutique' hotel occupies a nondescript building just off the southern end of busy George Street. No lobby, just a stark narrow hallway with a small reception desk. No amenities. It is in the heart of the International District (many Asian restaurants and Market City, aka Paddy’s Market). Central Station is about a 10-minute walk. Sydney’s major attractions such as The Rocks, Opera House, Darling Harbor, and the Botanic Gardens are a bit of a tread, but public transport is easy at nearby Central Station. An Opal transit card will prove useful. My king room made a decent first impression, with a spare industrial look and upscale linens on the large comfortable bed. Sleep was relaxed and quiet. Unfortunately, form overwhelms function here. The reach for eclectic designer chic instead has produced a flat and bleak living space. The lighting throughout is dimmer than dim, especially in the bathroom. Taking a shower or reading a book requires a flashlight. The room was uncomfortably cold. The control unit blew even colder air. The 12-inch CRT TV was kitsch 1950’s-retro, with few useful channels. Cleanliness was ok - just. No view, understandable given the small building inner-city location. Check-out time is an unforgiving 10:00 (“Book another night if you want to stay longer”). The Wi-Fi did not work. The owner/receptionist was surly. My one night stay was too long by a day. Better value can be found closer to Sydney center.
