A comfortable large room, great location, amazing view, delicious breakfast and an excellent host. A great base to enjoy Victoria and the Saanich peninsula region. Our expectations were well surpassed and we would certainly rebook for future visits.

By-the-Sea is a very unique house. We enjoyed our stay. A couple of minor things - the pillows were very uncomfortable. The towels were poor quality or old.

The B&B has a formal decor. I was challenged by the 4 poster bed. I needed a chair to climb up to bed, then up and down as I needed to use the washroom during the night. I do not recommend this type of bed for seniors or people of short stature. The breakfast was fancy but not sufficient.

The owner of the property was there to greet us, show us around and recommended an excellent dinner option down the road. Breakfast was ready the next morning at the time we suggested and very well presented.

Many negative factors here! Judging from some of the other reviews I have now read, these problems are not new. Very noisy location due to proximity to major highway. Yard is terribly neglected, and has worn out old furniture that you wouldn’t want to sit on. Even if it were better, you wouldn’t want to sit outside and listen to the traffic. Everything inside is filthy! Disgusting carpet, that you are asked to remove your shoes to walk on! Deep dust in our room and elsewhere, that you can write your name in.. House full of huge Victorian furniture and collectibles that make you claustrophobic. Barely adequate breakfast. No instruction on other parts of house that you were welcome to use, if any? Big cat and happy dog inside house. No consideration for people with allergies, and dog barked when people entered or left house. Lastly, there was the spot light that was directed at our room. Had to close blinds to avoid light on ceiling.
