Exceptional 10.0
As Nessa would say, “Tidy.”
I received a message whilst travelling letting me know where to find my key if the manager/owner wasn’t there. This was an indication of the level of service that we were to experience. The guest house was clean with the standard of detail for the room that you would see in your own home. The beds were comfortable and a full explanation of all you needed to know was in a folder by the bed. The weather was gorgeous and the room (being at the top of the house) was very hot. Our thoughtful hosts had put a quiet fan in the room for us to use so that we could sleep. Lovely fresh, clean linen. Good sized shower and shower room. I would recommend you book the Welsh breakfast which was served between 8-930. Lots of choices and very clean dining room. Location is perfect to walk to the promenade where a lot of the TV show ‘Gavin & Stacey’ was filmed. The people of Barry embrace this and I would recommend any fans to visit and to book well in advance to stay at this cracking place. We were impressed by the historical walls, the hills (great for your calves) and the fact that there’s a Parkrun along the prom on a Saturday morning. On this occasion, the lure of the Welsh breakfast beat the call for a run. The post run coffee is at Marco’s - where else. Great accommodation, location and easy to find. We took a train into Cardiff from Barry Island. Two adults, off peak, for a 30 min journey = £10.60 A cab into Cardiff would cost around £20.

Exceptional 10.0
I would like to VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this bed and breakfast. Marion was there to greet me and show me to my room. She was extremely friendly and gave me lots of useful information. The bedroom and bathroom were perfect, modern and extremely clean. Breakfast next day was outstanding with a great variety of fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, meat, cheese PLUS a full English freshly cooked by Marion. The location is perfect, just a 10 minute walk from the station in one direction and 10 mins to the coastal path and down to the lovely sandy bay. I was VERY IMPRESSED at the way Barry Island has made much of itself and it has a great start, being set in a beautiful seaside and cliff location. 11 marks out of 10 and especial thanks to Marion for making my stay so special. I hope to visit again next year and would DEFINITELY CHOOSE GAIL`S GUEST HOUSE. Thank you.

Very good 8.0
Small but clean room .... and a great breakfast
We would have given this hotel a 3/5 Rating due to the small room size, too soft bed and a minor problem with check-in, but the very friendly staff and the excellent breakfast caused us to give it a 4 rating. Our minor problem with check-in...when we arrived there was no one in the entry hall, just our room keys. We had several questions, so went back downstairs several times and finally peaked into the breakfast area, which had no one around. Later, upon return to the breakfast area we saw a sign saying “ring bell for service.” Bottom line, check the breakfast area And ring the buzzer for service when you arrive.

Barry Island visit
This was a guest house that was very reasonably priced . Great cooked to order breakfast . Staff so friendly and owner very helpful. Unfortunately the property from the outside doesn’t give a very good impression and the back garden from the bedroom looks a real mess . The bedroom had an unfortunate smell of stale tobacco and this smell could not be shifted despite opening the window when we were in the room. We did tell the staff about it who said they would inform the owner of our comments. It was a shame because for the price this was a reasonable place to stay .

Good 6.0
The room was clean and comfortable enough for an overnight stay but had a cooking smell all night. Maybe there was a fish and chip shop near by. No bath mat just at paper one that was designed as a bath mat which stuck to your feet and got wet very quickly. Cannot rate the staff as we never saw them. An email which we received after arrival alerted us to where to find the key but we found it ourselves anyway on arrival. Breakfast didn’t start until 8am which was too late for us on this day so we had to leave before meeting anyone.
