Don’t believe the room description
I booked two “ Deluxe “ rooms for me and one for my guest . Description also said these room have views and separate showers . I also requested High floor even though the description “ view “ means that in a Very short hotel . We where given two rooms on the 1st floor with tubs ( no separate showers ) and facing a wall that was less than 30 feet away . What a view . I went back downstairs . I complained and said that’s not what I paid for . Two ladies pretended to move mountains gave me another room on the second floor . One of them added “ we upgraded you to a Deluxe “ . I said I already paid for a deluxe . This room is not much better other than it has a standing shower that a Chihuahua would have found it cramped . My view was of the same wall . I told my guest to do the same because I’m embarrassed . He might think I got him a cheap room . They made him wait another day and gave him a room with shower but no view . So like I said . Don’t believe the description and this hotel will never see me again . Thank You .

Lots of fuss, very little luxury
£500/night at the Dorchester bought me a room with old upholstery, marble bathroom without the towel rails and without a toilet brush, and a view on the wall. Our room - tucked away in the long corridor with only one floor exist at its beginning - you have to go "miles" to get there. "Promenade" at the ground floor is open to public and people come there from the street dressed in drabs to have the afternoon tea. There is no sense of exclusivity. Equipment (elevators which broke down "again" during our stay), furnishings and Christmas decorations are very old and have not been updated for a very, very long time. It seems like the hotel is trading on its past glory slicing people's money just for the name, lots of fuss but very little comfort or luxury. Any positives? Staff is trying really hard. The bedding is good. But overall, do not recommend.

Extremely expensive, not so good service
Being "the Dorchester" you would expect a high standard of service, but it disappoints. I saw how three guests were asked to rush and finish their meals because at the restaurant "the tables were booked" ??? Found it quite rude. Making the booking through Expedia, they treat you like a second class guest. Did not provide enough soap or shampoo, lack of amenities; no upgrades, suites with no view, etcetera. Next time I will choose a different hotel.

Great but read fine print
Lovely hotel, beautifully appointed; well situated near shopping and some attractions (a bit of a walk to museums and other sites). Service is outstanding; the staff is meritorious of Excellent rating. Fine print: Must pay extra for high speed Internet--ridiculous for a hotel of this caliber. On this principle alone, I would not recommend. By the way, phone charge for a local call was 130 pounds (which hotel later discounted after I complained). Other plusses: Lovely afternoon tea and fabulous Alain Ducasse restaurant is on site.

Exceptional
Pricey, but you get what you are paying for.
A stay at this hotel is an experience worth having. Great service and great location for tourists (near all major sights). The staff were extremely attentive and courteous. The hotel itself is also very nice, if a little quaint and showing some age. Windows in my room would not seal tightly, which might have been fine 363 days of the year, but i was there during the early March freeze and the drafts were not welcome. Still, a great hotel.
