Housekeeping issues
Firstly, I know that teething problems can be hard to know and resolve. However, there is a long way to go before I would consider your hotel 5 star. Thursday 12/10 - room was lovely on our arrival and very comfortable. We ordered room service for dinner and a bottle of French wine, which we enjoyed. Friday 13/10 - when we returned from being out all day the used cups and glasses from the night before had not been replaced with clean ones. I ended up having to ask three times for housekeeping to come and clear them. Each time I was told someone would be up right away. 20 minutes would go by and no none. The chap who eventually came to clear them seemed bewildered that there were even cups in our room (have your staff never stayed in a hotel?) and didn't seem to understand they were meant to be removed. Later we went out for a few hours, and we left the TV on, the curtains open and the tv remote on the bed. When we returned the TV was off, the curtains closed and the tv remote nowhere to be seen. Someone had been in our room. We had not requested the turn down service. The manager checked our door lock and said that no one had been in our room, and he gave us a replacement tv remote. However, when we got into bed we noticed the bed had been 'short sheeted', which is a pretty purile thing to do. The next morning we found the tv remote on the window sill. We feel that was a serious invasion of our privacy and an incredibly stupid and childish thing to do.

A new hotel off to a promising start
Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, the central location of this hotel is fabulous. It's just a short walk to the CBD and the waterfront. The rooms are well appointed and the hotel offers many amenities. It's a brand new facility, so there are still some things to be worked out. For example, my room did not have a desk, a chair, or any empty drawers. That meant that there was no where to place my devices as they charged even though the universal chargers, housed next to the TV as part of the fabulous entertainment center, were a few feet off the floor. There was no place to sit other than the bed...though it was very comfortable. No drawers made it really hard to unpack and stow personal belongings if you are staying for more than a night or two. But, these are minor drawbacks that don't detract from the quality service I received.

Was very disappointed that the room had no desk or table. I ate my meal using the bed as a table and then improvised with the ironing board as a desk so I could work (not terribly successful). Told on checkout that the 'classic room' doesn't have desks or tables - if I wanted a desk I should have upgraded apparently. I suggested they should let people know that on booking but staff were completely unconcerned. Can't see how a desk/table is a luxury item myself. Given the cost of a room at this hotel, desk, bed, chair should be a minimum provision. Glitzy decor is frippery - basic furniture provision essential.

One of the Best in Wellington0
We stayed 4 nights in a 'garden view' corner suite which was excellent. It was quiet, with a very pleasant view looking over a garden to a tree covered hill. The extra cost was worth it. The location of the hotel is also excellent; away from the center of the town but yet only 2 to 3 blocks away from the parliamentary precinct, a little further to the center of the town, the railway station and the harbour waterfront - all within easy walking distance. The staff were helpful and courteous, the amenities as expected, and the public areas comfortable. The bar behind the reception area was convenient for a rest, drink and a 'snack'. The restaurant was also excellent - better than average cuisine, good ambience and service.

Luxurious, relaxing Christmas stay
Fabulous four night stay during Christmas--upon arrival the staff advised most restaurants were closed on Christmas and quickly confirmed me for the hotel's Christmas dinner. Also, woke up to a a Christmas AM treat hanging on my door and that night a gingerbread cookie with my turn down service. The bar also had a great holiday drink menu--the gingerbread martini was fab! Had a great view of the city from my room and on Christmas didn't even leave the hotel. Overall, this was a lovely, luxurious, relaxing stay after being on the go during a two-week tour through New Zealand. Loved that the hotel was in walking distance to water front, botanical gardens and CBD, which was great to explore even during the quiet hours of the holiday.
