Sortis Will Be Gone Next Time We are in PC
So many things, where to start. First, I purchased the "with breakfast" rate which proved to be a big waste of my time and money. In the past, this hotel has been great but they are having some major service issues. Cleanliness of the swimming pool area (dirty towels and dishes sat for hours), no hot water to shower (one whole day and the next was tepid...management was aware and working to fix it), 3 major restaurants/convenient store closed, no shops remaining in the mall other than arcade and food/beverage spots, and then the breakfast. We were seated and our room # taken for the buffet. We had to ask for beverages after about 20 minutes and nobody ever came by to greet us or ask if we needed anything. Within 32 minutes, we had already tweeted Marriott International, taken a video of the rock hard waffles, been smarted off by the omelet guy (who also had no plates and insisted we go find our own to put the omelets on), and still had no service. We were on a first name basis with the restaurant manager before leaving. He was kind and sent a lovely cheese/wine display to our room but our breakfast, as horrible as it was, would have cost $120 if we were paying outright. Instead, we had a miserable day sightseeing because we were all still so mad over the breakfast debacle. Literally, 12 people were "working", which by their standards meant 2 were attempting to do something that looked useful and the other 10 people were all dressed up and doing zilch. Never again.

Let it ride
The hotel is nice. We really loved the pool. They do sell passes to the local residents to use the pool for the day. The sad part is that they don’t enforce the rules for them like playing their own music. I’m just a little mad because on our last day the “acting managing food waitress delivery person” who spoke English decided to throw down on us for getting ice at the bar. It was like I committed an international ice felony. The sad part is that my ice machine on floor 16 was broken and no one fixed it during my stay. I just don’t need attitude as a paying hotel guest when I need ice. I would have gotten my own ice if my ice machine was fixed in the hotel. The air conditioning in the room isn’t great. The room was clean and each room had a Nesspro which rocks. The buffet breakfast was really good with a fantastic salad bar, omelette station and Panamanian Street food. The casino is definitely worth a look. They have an awesome bingo room with a $3 food buffet with drink purchase. Now that’s an old school Vegas deal. We also had to change rooms in the middle of our stay because our room door wouldn’t open. The whole fiasco took over two hours to fix which included my family witnessing security kicking our door down while we were in our wet swim wear. I’m still upset that not a single hotel manager contacted us to apologize for our inconvenience or to see if we were okay. The hotel has a lot of action including restaurants on the main floor and a little mall for shopping.

Bad experience - Would not stay here again
At check-in they seemed to have problems with the computers so the receptionist had to change computers twice. While I was being checked-in the other of the two receptionists in the reception was fiddling with some papers while having this pissed off look on her face. I gave the pissed off looking receptionist a smile and in return I was just starred at with this pissed off look. I had booked one of the hotels suites and it was dirty with a shoebox in the wardrobe, tags from clothes etc around the bed. The 2 bathrooms of the suite felt worn out. There was nothing in the minibar even if its at an additional charge. The breakfast was okay but during the breakfast I was starred at and repeatedly touched by some of the female employees - sure someone of them were good looking but not something you want to experience while eating your breakfast. I was staying in Panama for linking up with colleagues to travel to Europe and had arranged to meet with some of them at the lobby bar. A female colleague arrived first and the security/bell-boy hanged around like a hawk for about 30 minutes until the other colleagues arrived. I can only assume that they thought the female colleague was a lady of the night and they wanted to make sure she was not brought to a room for free. The hotel informed me and another person checking in that guests to the room carry a fee of 30 USD. I will not stay here again and can not recommend the hotel.

Family Vacation
Before arrival my husband was in contact with the manager Sam. He explained how we needed three rooms, one needed to be a handicap room. At check in Sam came right up to us to advise us everything was taken care of. The check in process went very smooth and quick. Our rooms were very clean and exactly what we asked for. Everyone at the hotel was so friendly and accommodating. I wish I remembered everyone’s name to personally thank them. I worked with Flora the concierge. She was very patient with me. We were a family of 7. Not everyone wanted to do tours. She arranged a tour of Monkey Island and Gamboa Village. She explained to us that we can do the Canal on our own too. BTW upon arrival United Airlines lost our luggage. The hotel staff worked with us to help us get it back. I definitely recommend the Sortis. Panama is a beautiful city with lots to do, and staying at the Sortis was a huge bonus! They have a beautiful breakfast buffet. Definitely worth it if you are going to be out all day. I know some people had it included in their room we did not, but maybe before arrival you can find out how to obtain that.

Good 6.0
This hotel is well advertised but not recommended if you are looking for customer service. The check in experience was delightful but afterwards it went downhill. The elevators were nice but there was no floors posted when you step out, this made it difficult to know what floor your are getting off if the elevator is packed. The elevators needed your key to get to your floor which is a great security measure but sometimes the buttons didn’t light up in some of the 6 elevators so you are not sure if your key was read or not. Well the room had an amazing view which I liked. My however complained about the lighting being dim with small number of light fixtures which she called depressing and the design in the carpet was off angle with the bed and she also complained the pillows were to uncomfortable . I thought the bathroom was amazing and the bed was awesome. The TV was a flat screen which was super cool. The main problem with this hotel was the over advertised pool area. In pictures and video the both online and in the aircraft Copa Airlines this hotel area seemed like the place to be, This was all a lie Because the pool area the servers where not around to cater to the pool deck and only stuck to the restaurant area, there was no know picking up towels from guest that left them at the chairs or cabanas Bc there was no large bins to put them in. There was no one Cleaning up after guest left their trash by the pool deck. There was no one by the towel area dispensing towels.
