8/10 Very good

What a beautiful, peaceful location! Pristine air and surrounds make for a relaxing and refreshing stay. The cabin was well-appointed, very clean and the bed and pillows were confortable and supportive for my arthritic back problems. Recep
However, we were disappointed by the restaurant/cafe options. The website describes a menu of organic choices from a wide range of Tasmanian produce. This is incorrect.
Whilst, as a business owner, I am only too aware of the staffing issues being experienced world-wide at present, the menu was so limited there was only one option for my vegetarian daughter and as I have wheat allergy, my options were similarly limited.
Lake St Clair is a little way from major centres, but freezers are a pretty great way to prep and store prepackaged or fresh food. Having worked extensively in hospitality, I thought the Management lacked imagination and experience, which translated to the staff. The coffee machine wasn't switched on until 11am and people staying or returning from hikes were desperate for a proper coffee, which, when it finally arrived, was pretty awful.
Talking to many experienced hikers who have been there many times, the restaurant and cafe has a long-standing pretty bad reputation and they avoid it. With the sheer numbers of people passing through this facility, it could be a poular goldmine, but is really missing the mark.
We actually got in the car and drove six kms to the nearest cafe to get a good coffee!
