What a beautiful, peaceful location! Pristine air and surrounds make for a relaxing and refreshing stay. The cabin was well-appointed, very clean and the bed and pillows were confortable and supportive for my arthritic back problems. Recep However, we were disappointed by the restaurant/cafe options. The website describes a menu of organic choices from a wide range of Tasmanian produce. This is incorrect. Whilst, as a business owner, I am only too aware of the staffing issues being experienced world-wide at present, the menu was so limited there was only one option for my vegetarian daughter and as I have wheat allergy, my options were similarly limited. Lake St Clair is a little way from major centres, but freezers are a pretty great way to prep and store prepackaged or fresh food. Having worked extensively in hospitality, I thought the Management lacked imagination and experience, which translated to the staff. The coffee machine wasn't switched on until 11am and people staying or returning from hikes were desperate for a proper coffee, which, when it finally arrived, was pretty awful. Talking to many experienced hikers who have been there many times, the restaurant and cafe has a long-standing pretty bad reputation and they avoid it. With the sheer numbers of people passing through this facility, it could be a poular goldmine, but is really missing the mark. We actually got in the car and drove six kms to the nearest cafe to get a good coffee!

6/10 Good

Quite ordinary
We booked the executive cabin for 2 nights It has a Kitchenette but no crockery or microwave. When we used the spar in the room the first night it flooded the bath room with water sprayed upwards from the spouts! Everything got wet. It was a disaster! The manager was good enough to give a credit for the inconvenience. Such a disappointment. Breakfast was disappointing with food not replenished. You have to really get there early to get a full feed. You do expect more for the price you paid for the room.

The setting is simply stunning and couldn't be better located. All the walks start from there and so incredibly convenient. The lake view room was just fabulous, with a gas log fire that worked brilliantly. It was disappointing that there is no comfy area to just sit and chill and have a drink. There's 2 places to eat, one just serves burgers and pizza, and the other has a small but more upmarket menu . Sadly they literally have no staff, so the service was appalling. One clearly fed up server, trying to take orders, deliver food, clear up and make the drinks. Took an hour before a coke and a beer were brought to the table. Breakfast was really basic and ran out after 20mins, then had to wait for the poor chef to try and replenish it. No plates as washing up hadn't been done! There's so many simple ways they could make money and help guests., eg have a selection of sandwiches and fresh fruit for people to buy to take on their long walks. Such a shame as the lodge is fab and with a couple of extra staff and some business acumen it would get top marks

A most amazing location with fabulous walks and treks in the surroundings hills and along the lake. The lodges are well designed and the smallish decks of each are discretely positioned for privacy and views.

Our chalet was exceptional in fit out, views and convenience. The lodge is suffering, like others in the hospitality industry, from a shortage of staff so the restaurant was under par. Breakfast was complimentary, but they could not have charged for what was offered. If we stayed again, we’d probably bring food with us and self-cater.
