Lovely Hotel, Perfect Location.
The Hawthorne Hotel was a pleasant surprise as we had picked it for the perfect location and found a gracious hotel as a bonus. Our room was very spacious with two queen beds and a separate sitting area. The staff were welcoming and helpful with booking restaurants for us. The location could not be better and the large free parking area in a town with limited, expensive parking was excellent! We would certainly stay there again. The hotel has an interesting history with many famous past guests.

Good 6.0
The hotel was ok room was small but clean the staff was mostly friendly but for a pet friendly hotel they don’t have designated areas for pets so when the owner of a dog left it in a room everyone else had to hear nonstop barking the restaurant was the worst dining experience in my entire life

Everything was amazing except for the fact that we arrived and the hotel asked us for a $100 pet fee that we weren’t expecting.

My wife and I stayed at the Hawthorne Hotel for 2 nights while staying for an event in Salem. The hotel was beautiful, exactly what you would expect of a classic hotel. The staff were professional and cordial, and the rooms themselves were wonderful. I do want to say that most pictures of the rooms on, and the internet are a little deceiving- they gave the impression that the rooms were much smaller than they are. I did not notice any rooms with king sized beds available, queen seemed to be the largest when we were choosing our room, and that was good enough for us. I think the only negative thing we had to say is thst the water cycles a lot between hot and short, cooler bouts when taking a shower, but that happens almost anywhere. We also had dinner our first night at Nat's- the hotel attached the the restaurant. We split a burger and their gourmet grilled cheese sandwich and both were very good. Check in and check out early the next morning was simple. We definately look forward to staying here again!

Perfect location, historic ambience and service.
This hotel wins the trifecta. 1) Perfect location, right in the heart of Salem and all the historic attractions. 2) Historic ambience in a hotel that retains a sense of grandeur and real classiness 3) Customer service that goes far beyond anything I've ever seen. I wanted to use my HDMI output from my computer on my room's TV, but the TV wasn't working properly. Eric the Manager personally came up to my room with a digital projector and set it up so I could use my wall as my own private movie theater. And other hotel staff were always helping me with all of my special requests and questions. The Hawthorne is a true gem and a rarity in how it excels in all categories. If you travel to Salem, you owe it to yourself to check this place out.

Centrally Located, Historic Charm
The ambiance at the Hawthorne Hotel cannot be beat. The staff is friendly and helpful, the lobby is a warm and welcoming place to sit and enjoy coffee or cider, and the hotel is centrally-located, so even after an entire day of walking around town, it's easy to get back to. It's right next to some of the biggest attractions in town, also. Our room on the third floor was big (two queens), but a bit dated and because of its location above the kitchen, it ALWAYS smelled like bacon. Not a bad thing, but it definitely made us hungry. Also, the shower was in a tiny room completely separate from the toilet/sink area, which was in the opposite corner of the room. Not the most convenient, but given that it's a historic hotel, that makes sense. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat -- the quirky historic characteristics and its charm make it a special place.
