Poor 2.0
Room #8 : water fill up in toilet tank was very slow as water pipe might be blocked. After opening tank cover we found someone dropped a piece of soap in the tank. But it was not reason of slow water fill up. No dishes washing liquid. Front came to check and moved us to room #7. Room #7 : toilet tank button was broken and unusable. Front moved us again to Room #25 : 1. Stinky kitchen. We could smell urine odor or alike. 2. Noisy from loosing parts somewhere , perhaps windows, the whole night we couldn’t sleep. 3. No soap shelf in bathroom 4. No coffee 5. Non working lamps in bedroom 6. Very noisy fan in bathroom, unable to switch off immediately, perhaps automated fan. 7. Room was newly renovated using nice wallpapers but it was old building and original wooden floor. We could smell odor of old floor and it was not pleasant at all especially when trying to sleep. The worst ever hotel we experienced in 3 weeks in New Zealand of total 12 Hotels. All rooms had no internal telephone so we had to walk from our room to reception when having any problems. If we cannot move back to room #7 or 8 today we will definitely move out to find other hotel. Next morning reception told us to move to room #8 and said problem was solved. But apparently they just removed the soap from tank. Water fill up was still very slow as we had to wait 4 minutes after each flushing. We insisted that they either fixed the problem in room #8 or changed tank buttons of room #7.

Great staff, good location
My friend and I spent 3 nights at the Apollo Lodge and we were very pleased with our stay. Staff was pleasant, I believe it was a husband and wife team running the place. The location could not have been better, a 5 minute walk from the downtown area for food and drinks but on a quiet street. Then again, my bed was right by the window so I was woken up a few times by loud people walking by the street. We were in an A-Frame room, which looks like they all border the street. So noise could be an issue in this room type vs. the others. Our room also looked different from the online pictures which were of the upstairs rooms. I addressed this with the staff and they said they could not control which pictures were shown. A bit disappointing, but the room was the same layout nonetheless. The beds were not the most comfortable beds but they did just fine.

Fair 4.0
The room was okay, but we had booked the room for two , because we weren't sure if my daughter would be staying with us. At the time of booking there was an option to add a roll-away, which I did, just in case she stayed. She ended up with us and we all three checked in. The gentleman who ran the hotel, (I think with his wife) was very rude and kept saying, "why did you book for 2 if there are 3" I explained that it was due to the fact we weren't sure about my daughter which is why we ordered the roll-away and we would pay for the third person, but he just continued to be rude and treated us that way with every interaction. We only stayed one night, but it was very disappointing. We spent two weeks in New Zealand and this was the only bad experience we had, but we would definitely not stay again.

Good location only thing going for it
We were in a hotel room here for just one night. Arrived at 3pm (check in is 2pm) and parked our car. The front desk person told us not to move our car or we'd never get another parking space. In checking previous reviews, someone had complained about not having a parking spot and Apollo replied that all guests have spots available to them. Sounds like that is simply not true. Asked if we could check out early in the morning (we had a Weta tour booked that finished at 11:30am) and leave our car until 1pm so we could grab lunch before drove to the ferry, but we're told no, we had to have the car out of the parking lot by noon, even though check in was 2pm. The room itself was fine, but no heat in the second bedroom or the bathroom. Also, it was on the second floor, up about 20 steps with no lift. I don't recall seeing that in the description. Carrying two 50lb bags didn't make me happy. Finally, they have washer and dryer facilities, but I can only describe them as third world. Grimy little back room, no place to sit inside. Poor.
