Fabulous Hotel Mayer & Splendid
Our recent stay at the Hotel Mayer & Splendid was lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They upgraded us to include a visit to the hotel spa, which was really relaxing. The hotel is really well situated in the centre of Desenzano, near all the restaurants and bars and across from the ferry stop, so easy for trips across the lake. The hotel is family owned. It isn’t a very modern hotel in many ways, although we find that is common in many parts of Italy. However, the marble staircases and so on give it a real charm. We stayed in a 3 person family superior room, which was more than enough for the time that you spend in the room when on holiday. It had a nice view over to the lake. The guests were a mix of nationalities, including lots of Italians visiting, which was a great sign of how well the hotel is regarded. There is a small cafe attached to the hotel which appeared to be owned by the hotel itself although it wasn’t accessed from the hotel. The cafe was nice for a quiet drink until he afternoon or evening, watching the people go by. Desenzano, and Lake Garda generally, was a lovely place for a holiday, and we would highly recommend Hotel Mayer & Splendid. We needed to leave early on the last day, and the hotel offered to make us some breakfast packs to take with us for the journey, which was a nice touch. We would definitely go back.

Do not stay here.
Location absolutely brilliant. Breakfast too. Room substandard with holes and cracks all over the wall. The room next door looked much better and more recently refurbished. The gym was just some equipment in room 118 and 119! Disappointing.

we booked triple room water front room 2 months before arrival. when we arrived there, we were given a regular room without water view. when we asked why, they said the expedia sent wrong booking, When we called Expedia, Expedia said that was not true at all and explained why, we found the hotel is dishonest on giving away the room we booked. Good breakfast and location but..........
The hotel looked and felt tired. The sheets didn't seem to feel clean and crisp. The television didn't work and neither did the telephone when I tried to call the front desk to ask about the television. Breakfast was good though and the location was excellent, right in front of the ferry port. If returning to Desenzano, I would likely choose a different hotel.
