8/10 Very good

Family accommodation is a donga and very dated and in need of repair. Hostess is lovely and the location for stromatolites and telegraph history is fabulous.

8/10 Very good

Host was an absolute gem, but we found evidence of rodent activity in through kitchen. Dishes were unclean and we were only supplied with about 2 litres of drinking water. Unfortunately there was a rather large sweaty man that decided to have a bath in the pool were we were swimming, it was a bit gross!

The managers were very keen to help and to make our stay a very good one. Friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them

2/10 Poor

Wotif advertised the property as en-suite. The step up to the donga was so high we had to help my mum up and down, that was the one room that had en-suite. The tea you had to use external toilet block facilities that was unisex with a single shower and toilet. When we arrived wotif had stuffed up and only booked us one room despite taking payment for two rooms. The hosts sorted this out. We then cancelled our next night stay for 5 days later due to the place not being ideal for our needs and spoke to the owners that if we rebooked it would be through them directly. The owners denied our request to cancel and we’re now having issues having our money returned.

Ph. Godard

Bit of a nightmare!
Stopped here for one night on way from Exmouth to Perth, primarily to break up journey and secondly to view Stromatalites. On arrival, despite evidence of the booking on a piece of paper, the receptionist didn't know what we'd booked! It transpired that the Double Studio booked, with ensuite facilities & kitchenette, didn't exist. After over half an hour wait we were given a very small ensuite room (one quarter of a portacabin). To call this a unit is stretching the imagination. We were told we could use the camp kitchen, which we did later to prepare a simple meal and weren't impressed by the facilities, many of them dirty; views shared by others there at the same time. After our Stromatolites walk we went to relax around the pool but we're told this wasn't open so we sat in the seating area in front of our room; the seats were ok but tables needed cleaning and there was dog faeces on the floor. It's a good job we were prepared and had sufficient drinking water with us because no water at the site is consumable by humans - this information was displayed around the site but not in our accommodation. Obviously no WiFi & unfortunately no Optus reception either!!! If you want to boil a kettle ensure you have no other items using electricity. We were charging a phone & when using the kettle it kept tripping out. Disappointing and certainly not good value for money - we paid far less in prime tourist areas and got far better and more importantly what we'd booked!

The place appears to be completely unkept. Rubbish bins not emptied, basic maintenance non existent. Management indifferent. Green grass in that area nice to see and swimming pool pleasant

More basic than expected
It is more basic than we were expecting. I had paid Wotif/Expedia, but the accommodation management had not received this payment - thankfully they honoured it. Toilets were outside and there was no running water in the room. Having said that, Joseph who was temporarily looking after the place was really helpful and friendly.

True WA remoteness
Hamelin Pool is roughly 20 km off the main road junction, close to the stromatolites which are in walking distance from the camp. I stayed in an 8 bed dorm but was lucky as I was the only one in there. The beds are good - I slept well. All 'rooms' appear to be retired construction office containers, but they do their job. They are air-conditioned as well which was good, but I must say I didn't really need it as the area gets cool over night (was there over Christmas). The camp has no drinkable water and you get a 10 l jerry can of drinking water on arrival, and toilets/showers/pol use saline ground water. Washroom facilities are a bit end-of-life and need a renovation - I must say they still do their job well and are clean, but don't really look that way due to their pre-loved state (maybe it is also the saline water taking its toll on the facilities). I don't want to stress these negatives - this is a remote area, and running the camp as it is is likely hard enough for the manager and staff. If your expectations are a five star city hotel - this is not it. However if you embrace the WA remoteness, definitely a place to stay here. Don't forget to order a milkshake from the cafe! The other food at the cafe is good, but also just don't expect something fancy - can't stress this enough - this is not a city five star resort but a mostly owner operated outback camp! Also worth mentioning, prices at the cafe are reasonable despite this being the only cafe for miles in the area.
