Disappointing stay
Very disappointing stay, after booking 3 nights we left after 2. Entrance to hotel is very unappealing and looks dated, carpet could do with a very good clean. Lifts were not working properly so we had to carry our suitcases up to the 1st floor reception. At reception we were handed our room card but no explanation of where room was. On finding our room there was an overpowering smell of air freshener. Whilst the bathroom was clean enough, there was a rather unpleasant smell from the toilet which the air freshener was attempting to mask. No heating in the room, just a small plug in heater which smelt like it was burning when we switched it on. The windows also could not be opened. The kettle had a burnt element which we took back to reception and swapped for a new one. Hairdryer also dodgey.Due to a health issue we needed an extra pillow on our bed. We asked a receptionist who said she would look for one and get back to us in the next 15minutes. No sign of her 2 hours later so we went back to reception again and saw a different receptionist. Fortunately she was much more helpful and scoured the whole hotel for spare pillows. She then came back to us to state that she couldn’t find any. despite the hotel having 90 rooms there are no spare pillows to be found! We were woken up a number of times during the night owing to the doors having heavy locks which require banging shut to close. TV also did not work and remote was filthy. Fortunately rest of room was clean.

Sad
I'm always a little sad when a hotel which I have chosen is a bit a of a let down. External and entrance is in need of some TLC. Had requested a front or side facing room which was not allocated but after returning to reception if I paid additional £10 there were available rooms? Room was what is expected from major chain hotels. Curly hair in bathroom sink, few long dark strands in shower and water spray stains all over shower wall, ran out of toilet paper overnight too. Rest of room was tidy and dust free. About 8.00pm I went down to the bar and waited and waited whilst the receptionist/waitress was on the phone. No apology when she finally appeared and I ordered a bottle of coke she couldn't find a glass then picked up a pint tumbler from under the counter and gave it a wipe with a cloth, i'm a 60 year old lady not used to using this type of glassware. On returning to my room I then noticed the marks on the lip of the glass and the many fingerprints so I duly poured my £2.00 drink down the sink. Sleep was poor due to the air conditioning unit in the bathroom running constantly plus the thump thumping from nearby pub till 3.00 am. Breakfast selection was as expected however after eating my cereal and whilst standing waiting for my toast a staff member cleared my table so I had to collect another coffee and other breakfast items again, what a waste.

Poor 2.0
Smelly and scruffy
Air con didn’t work repair guy never turned up noisy all night from nearby nightclub, paid £73 for room That smells foisty and damp. Wind whistling through gaps in windows and fan in bathroom! Breakfast minimalist only cooked food was cold boiled eggs. Hotels looks derelict I thought we had gone to the wrong place, does not look like the pictures, false impressions. Lift doors would not close had to climb a lot of stairs with crutches. Entrance clogged with smokers and very dirty and smelly. Won’t stay at another Ibis hotel it was like a dosshouse!

Poor 2.0
Great locatiion poor cleanlineds
The hotel staff were delightful and very helpful. The location was great - on the seafront within close walking distance of the Winter Gardens. The first night the room was freezing - there were no spare heaters so I had to sleep in my coat and scarf. The heating unit in the room was too noisy to leave on whilst sleeping. The fan unit in the bathroom was noisy and had to be manually shut off by a tall person. The bed linen was not ironed and did not have the crisp feeling of hotels - one wonders if it had been changed. The quality of bed making was dreadful and the duvet was pulled across but sheets were not pulled flat again. The shower was covered in hairs on arrival and the shower tray took 20 minutes to drain. The shower was not cleaned during the four nights of our stay. The first night there was a knock on the door and a very drunk man asked to use our toilet - he was not a guest in the hotel and how he got through the security door is a mystery - I did not feel very safe after that. Breakfast was fine. The rooms opposite ours without a sea view were very dark. With clean linen, effective cleaning staff, functional plumbing, tight security and renewed heating systems, this hotel would be a great place to stay. Unfortunately it is the worst hotel I have stayed in for years ( and I stay un hotels several times a month) and was very expensive and extremely poor value for money.

Very good 8.0
ok budget hotel
The rooms were clean pillows weren’t that comfy but not a massive issue. Everything clean. The only problem was a bad odour in the lift. Breakfast is continental only but was nice. Ok budget hotel. Shame the outside of a beautiful building had crumbling paint though 😢
