Worst Customer Service Ever - Book Anywhere Else!
Save your troubles and book anywhere else! 1. Checked in around 2PM and take a nap. Wake up to faint knocking and as I open my eyes, someone is walking into our room! I run downstairs to find out what is going on and I get a list of excuses. The breach of privacy! What if we weren't taking a nap? I was absolutely appalled. 2. Leave for the day and ask for our room to be cleaned. I leave my toothbrush in a holder on a cabinet in the bathroom. I come back to find my toothbrush holder where I left it, but the toothbrush itself is in my makeup case on the nightstand. I march downstairs and have a lengthy conversation that no one is to enter our room for any reason for the rest of our stay. 3. Next day, our Do Not Disturb sign is hanging on our door when we leave. We come back, the sign is gone and our room has been cleaned. I go downstairs to inquire about yet another incident and get, "what do you want? She's a 50-year-old woman!". I demand to speak to the manager and am forced to write a hand-written note. Asked for front desk guy’s name but he refuses to give it to me. He is also talking badly about me to another Parisian (yes, I understand). When I asked if this note would actually get to the manager, all I got was a shrug. At the same time, this lady is having similar problems with the front desk guy. I demanded a partial refund but they wouldn’t even get back to me. WORST SERVICE EVER. DO NOT BOOK.

Exceptional 10.0
This was a lovely budget hotel in Paris. For our family of four it was perfect, and roomy enough for all 4 of us and our luggage. The room was clean, and the hotel was fairly quiet, even though the walls were thin. Location: Excellent - few feet from the Oberkampf metro station and walking distance to many things. Cleanliness. It was spotless on arrival and well maintained during our stay. The common areas were also nicely maintained. Food: There is a very nice breakfast buffet which one can select for about $13 Euros/person. It had pastries, meats, breads, cereals, and an assortment of fresh fruits. For a large eater, this will be a bargain or comparable to some of the other breakfasts in the area. If you are having a croissant and a coffee, a local boulangerie may be a better option. Staff: In my opinion this is what makes or breaks a stay in a foreign country. All of the staff members we met were very helpful with directions, and advice, extra towels, etc. Things to note: The garden space is really lovely, pictures don't do it justice. Also, if you use the shuttle to the airport, know that it is a shared ride, and you will not be going to the airport. Your arrival time to the airport may be impacted by this. Recommendations: While the bathrooms were very sleek and elegant, with just a glass partition, a shower curtain (or minimally the ability to install a makeshift one) might be more practical in a family room, allowing more simultaneous use of the bathroom.

Exceptional 10.0
We booked 2 rooms in Hotel Alhambra for a family of 4 for 1 week at the end of July 2019. For a 3 star hotel it is excellent in terms of cleanliness, location to Metro and to restaurants etc. The bathrooms in particular have high quality fixtures and fittings, and there was always plenty of hot water for showers, towels, shampoo etc. Air conditioning worked superbly - which was very welcome given that we were there during the 42 degrees Celsius day!! The staff were very kind and helpful and did all that we asked of them. There is an optional breakfast which we availed of only once but the range and quantity of food available was extensive. In terms of what we might have liked that the hotel did not have were a mini freezer and maybe tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. However, we knew these were not available in advance. The rooms themselves were compact but were designed very well with ample storage space etc. There is a delightful garden at the back and a vending machine in the lobby for cold drinks and snacks. Tea/coffee can be ordered at reception if required. Overall, we had a really enjoyable stay in Hotel Alhambra.

Convenience
Dad and two adult sons, needing room for one night between in-bound flight and out-bound train, took recommendation of friends' recent stay at this hotel. It is, and was, convenient to Gare Lyon and other nearby sites necessary to service our overnight stay in Paris. The staff was friendly, courteous, and efficient with check-in, noting breakfast option (which we took) to pre-paid booking for morning of our departure. As we arrived a couple of hours before check-in time, they allowed luggage to be safely stowed on site while we busied ourselves elsewhere in the city. Our room had three beds as requested, was clean, modern and well-equipped. Every traveler who has not been living under a rock knows that Europe, and France and Paris in particular, is expensive. This hotel's fees follow in this model -- it's not cheap but it is in line with other 3-stars of similar quality. I would rebook at this hotel on a subsequent visit to Paris.

Good location
Hotel Alhambra is a great little boutique style hotel, the room was small but had a king size bed (listed as queen size - a difference in the way England and France refers to sizes I guess). It was very quiet and in a great location, just a minute or two from the local metro station that links directly to Gare Du Nord and lots of cafes and bars within walking distance. On the whole the staff were helpful, but the big let down for us was the attitude when we reported not having hot water which lasted for 2 days. One of the staff remarked 'well it worked earlier', there was no apology or offer of any hot water for washing (we would happily have taken a boiled kettle so that we could at least wash our faces). I would recommend this as a good base to explore Paris from.
