After 5 weeks of traveling Europe and staying in only 5 star hotels we were very disappointed in the Gran Melia. For starters the lobby is not inviting and outdated..... but most importantly the staff was not friendly and that’s putting it lightly. The Bellmen in front, the bartenders were super nice and so was the concierge. Unfortunately some of the reception staff was straight up rude. $500 Euro plus tax got us a room on the first floor next to there offices. We can see the staff working at there desk with doors wide open. When we walked to our room we can see the chefs going in and out of what must have been a kitchen. In all our years of experience traveling this was a very disappointing especially for a hotel that claims to be a leading hotel. This was our last 2 nights after a 5 week tour in Europe and we had just checked out of the Ill Pellicano in Tuscany and this was an absolute 10! This is truly a leading hotel. Gran Melia was our last 2 days of our amazing European vacation and it was very very disappointing. Never again would we come back or recommend this property. GET THIS......when we were walked to our room in the dungeon and they saw the disappointmented expressions on our face they offered to upgrade us to a to a better room a few floors up at a minimum of $200 Euro extra a night (which would had made it $700 Euro per night) when they were clearly near vacant. Had we not been so exhausted.... we would have up and left and lost our money.

    Poor 2.0
They made us wait for about an hour before check in. Then they offered a room for 2000 euros extra. Then the staff was rude. The pool didn’t have any service or attendance, I requested a water and they never brought it. The house keeper only left 2 shampoos for our whole stay. Absolutely terrible!!

    Exceptional 10.0
Beautiful hotel a short taxi ride to the City centre. Friendly and attentive staff fluent in multiple languages. Lovely pool area that never felt crowded. Pool was cold but great if you brave it for a cool down after lying in the sun. Large jacuzzi in a sub trap area was perfect temp for relaxing and cooling down. Unfortunate that only one set of jets working. My wife and I are looking forward to returning next year.

    Exceptional 10.0
We loved the views, the pool, the staff-outstanding! (Your restaurant Manager (Alessro?) was amazing. The air conditioning in 729 worked ok. Our second room 727 was very hot. If we stayed more than a day, it would have been a problem. It needs to be looked at.

    Exceptional 10.0
Luxurious urban resort with first class service
Stayed there as a family of 4 with two young children for 3 nights.Truly luxurious hotel. Staff very attentive, polite, professional and charming. Great location. Despite being on the "wrong" side of the river, it's only a 20min walk to Piazza Novona, and the walk across the bridge is so lovely and the view of the Tiber is to die for! As a Red Level user, we had access to the special lounge which served drinks and snacks throughout the day. Lots of free stuff delivered to our room at turn down - truffles, chilled champagne etc. Pools were amazing - a big one for adults (and kids) and a smaller baby pool with jacuzzi. Room was spotless. My only complain is that it's a bit small considering it's a junior suite - more like a double room. Being close to a hospital, you can hear the ambulance sirens from the pool multiple times in the day, but that didn't bother us much.
