Scam taxis!!
The hotel lobby was under construction when we stayed. The new "lobby" was extremely messy and disorganized. And our room wasn't ready at 3pm (check in time). We sat around the lobby waiting until 4pm before getting keys to our room.
The room itself was nice. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the location was convenient.
Upon checking out, I asked the staff in the lobby if they could call me a cab, and they advised that there are taxis downstairs waiting, just outside of the exit door. So, when we got outside, we asked one of the staff members (I think he worked for the valet service, but am not sure) if he knew where the taxis were. He brought us to some guy in an unmarked car whose driver was quoting an extremely high "flat rate" to take us to the airport. We said, let's just use the taxi meter, because Dubai taxis are usually quite affordable, and we knew that the meter would be cheaper.
We get in this "taxi" and there's no meter! I ask him how he's gonna set the meter. He pulls up some metering app on his phone, and the charges start climbing insanely quick. I quickly google "unmarked taxis in Dubai," and find out that they're scams and illegal. We promptly get out of the car and call an Uber, which cost less than half the price of the "flat rate" that the scam taxi wanted to charge us.
I phoned the hotel on 3 separate occasions to report this to the manager, however none of those 3 times would staff connect me to the manager.
