8/10 Very good

Hotel getting tired.
We have been using Hilton hotels for many years and we would use Hilton Queenstown at least every 6-12 months. Unfortunately this is the second time I've given a bad review. This hotel is in need of an upgrade on the interior. The carpet is worn and wrinkled in places and the beds are getting uncomfortable, which is most unusual for Hilton hotels as they pride themselves on having comfortable beds. The king bed had bad roll to the edges and the roller way bed had springs protruding. Both were in need of replacement. The location is superb. We have generally stayed here because of the spa, pub, restaurant and general store which have made it a very handy site. Unfortunately on this visit all were closed except the restaurant. Rather disappointing!!!! The rooms with a view are the best!!! Still a great hotel just needing a revamp and modernizing. Another thing that worry's me is the lack of security. Anyone can access this place very easily without the need of a card you can access the entire hotel except the pool. Compared to other hotels this needs attention to protect guests. You shouldn't be able to even move from one floor too another without a swipecard. But here you can enter the hotel from ext without any card at all.

6/10 Good

Great property but one restaurant not operating which limited eating options. We lost power in our room for a time which meant we couldnt shower with hot water and the lifts were not working. The receptionist staff could do with a lesson in customer service - they appeared exasperated when asked questions and were.not great representatives for a hotel.

8/10 Very good

My room was excellent with a view of the lake. Very roomy with a separate living room area and a fireplace, a large bathroom and a bedroom that also had a view of the lake. The big issue with the resort was the lack of help. They were completely understaffed and unable to service rooms daily or have adequate wait staff in the dining room. They require reservations for dinner nightly, but when I arrived on my first day (a Monday), the first available reservation was for Thursday night. I had roomservice for 2 of the 3 nights, and although they would say it might be 2 hours before delivery, it was never that long (usually only 30-40 minutes) and the food was actually good. On Thursday night I went to my reservation for 6:15pm. I ordered salad and the market fish - the salad came in 20 minutes, but it was another 90 minutes before the fish arrived. The waiter who took my order initially was never to be seen again. Another server came to the table next to mine and gave them the dessert menu, and they told her they hadn't been served their mains yet. She was shocked and ran off, and about 5 minutes later brought them their dinner. Mine came shortly thereafter. I know it wasn't the servers' fault, but clearly the entire resort needed a lot more people working there. They just don't have them. Apparently the pandemic is to blame.

Lovely property and a great trip on the ferry into Queenstown. Easy to get up to The Remarkables on the shuttle. Hard to get into the restaurant, especially as the Pub on site was closed too while we were there.

8/10 Very good

The setting is beautiful and, with the exception of the odd plane departure during the day, the location is quiet and sheltered from the prevailing winds up the lake. It has been 6 years since we last stayed and the property has started to show some wear. We did have an issue during our stay where the majority of the house keeping staff came down with covid so our room was not serviced for 4 days (we had a 2nd booking for 4 nights following this one). We are quite tidy so we made the best of it but at no point on any day were we told that the rooms would not be serviced and we found that we would have to ask at reception for the rubbish bins to be emptied and more toilet paper. With a couple of years experience with covid now I would expect better contingencies in place (extra toilet paper and towels, reduce service rounds e.g. emptying rubbish, etc.) These issues do change your experience with the hotel and not what you should expect if you are paying normal rates - we did get a discount because of the issues but only because we asked at check out..... All through our stays the staff repeated that it was not their normal service level (by and large the staff were good under the circumstances) and things were tough; I understand that ..... however more effort to update customer expectations and pricing to match reduced service without having to be asked would go a long way to keeping the experience at this hotel separated from an Air BnB.
