I booked 2 stays at the hotel, being in Tokyo before and after a visit to Kyoto... Both times they had a wrong indication that I requested a Smoking room - I dont know if booking through Orbitz was the source of the problem, but what I was sure is that I did not willingly order a smoking room. My reservation showed NON SMOKING. the lady at the counter was not able to find me another room for the first stay (maybe not trying hard enough either) - and when I asked to waive the $10 fee for checking in an hour early as a compensation for giving me a Smoking room, she laughed and told me rules are rules. I made sure to request a non-smoking room VERBALLY for my second stay, but that fell on deaf ears... and there I was... this time the smoking room stank badly, I arrived late in the evening and had to wait till the next morning to make a scene... sleepless night. They finally apologized, changed my room to a non-smoking one and overall gave me good service from then on. Staff at the breakfast is not very personable... menu is not translated but has images you can choose from. a bit of a roulette for what you are going to get as some of these ingredients are not familiar to non-japanese. Location is by subway and train, so convenient for that, but not the prettiest part of town, unless you have to stay in this area for specific reasons, I would not choose it again.

A good choice hotel for exploring Tokyo
The hotel is just minutes away from Gotanda station and is a great stop for travelling around Tokyo - The Yamanote Line takes to you all the major areas within Tokyo, however it is a busy station - especially at rush hour. The hotel is basic, but functional. The room is typical modern/business Japanese style (small) but works well. Everything you need is provided and the washer/drier is now an essential part of my travel itinerary. Staff are courteous, always well presented and very happy to help you with any enquiries. W-Fi was a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it was very slow or would not connect, but this is technically a business hotel so I can understand a high demand for this service. There’s no restaurant onsite, but there is a link to “Jonathan’s” via the 2nd floor for breakfast or other meals, or you can comb the local area for food and drinks. Lawson, Family Mart (several of) and 7-11 are within two minutes from the hotel. The area around Gotanda is a little “seedy” at night. There are many establishments offering more adult-themed entertainment and lots of people on the street trying to beckon you into their establishments. They are not pushy and don’t get in your way like those in Shinjuku seem to be, a simple “no” (or iie) and they will leave you alone. Overall, for being a great base allowing you to explore Tokyo, it’s a good choice.

Nice location and room, but substandard breakfast
Very good location and nice rooms (small by most standards, but big enough by Tokyo standard). Having a washing-machine and customizable air-condition are great perks. Only real problem I had (and reason for mediocre review) was the breakfast. You have to use the "Jonathans" restaurant on the second floor. There you get a limited menu of "breakfast sets" to choose from. Basically you get a slice of cheap white bread, an egg, a very small helping of salad and a drink bar. Even for Japanese hotels that's just very sad. Also, 1000 JPY for this sorry excuse of a meal is just a rip-off. On the second day I tried to bring some additional food from the convenience store at ground level but the staff told me to bugger off because company rules ... You can of course buy more food from Jonathans ...

Simple, Clean and Convenient Hotel
The Tokyu Stay Gotanda was in a convenient location. It was across the street to the Gotanda Station (Yamanote Line). There was a 711 on the corner, Jonathan(like Denny's) on the 2nd floor of the hotel. If you stay at the hotel, they offer a 500 yen coupon for breakfast. It's a set menu, but several choices from American or Japanese breakfast. There are many local restaurants around the hotel. We had the best Yakiniku at a restaurant around the corner/behind the hotel. The rooms was a little cramped. This is typical of Japanese hotel. The bathroom was a pretty good size though. They do not clean your room everyday, but will change your towels daily and empty your trash. The best thing was there was a washer/dry all in one in your room. The front desk will give you the detergent for free. The use was free too. If you want a simple, basic hotel, this would be a perfect place. It was clean, convenient, and the staff were friendly.

Love the location of this hotel as it is just next to JR Gotanda Station (Yamanote Line) and the Metro Gotanda Station. You could reach Shibuya in 7 minutes and Shinjuku in 15 minutes from the hotel! We reach the hotel from Narita Airport by Keisei Skyliner and change to JR Yamanote line at Nippori Station in around 1 hour. The major selling point of Tokyu Stay hotel chain is that there is a washer & dryer FREELY available in your room! You don't need to bring a lot of clothes and save up the spaces in your luggage for shopping in Tokyo! I just bring 2-day clothes for my 7-day trip in Tokyo! The washer & dryer works efficiently and quietly. Also, there is a small kitchen with pot provided in the room. So that you could buy fresh food from supermarket nearby (REMY Department Store) to make it in your room. I have bought A5 Kobe Wagyu Steak from Shinjuku to cook in the room. Very nice! Will definitely stay at this hotel again when I return to Tokyo.
