Poor management and wifi but promising....
The checkin was complicated and very unprofessional. The night manager was unhelpful and said my booking had been cancelled, but retrieved it and then insisted on a deposit which had already been paid to the booking agency. The so called wifi did not work at all in my room on the fourth floor. After many requests for a room change next morning which was initially refused until I asked to see the day manager. The latter was unavailable but on the premises and sent another person, who agreed to the change but then did nothing . After more calls I was given a room on the eleventh floor with some erratic wifi connection. The room was lovely with a great view of the beach and the buffet breakfast wa excellent. Perhaps this hotel will improve or go the same way as many on the beachfront.

Very nice older hotel
There was a huge buffet breakfast at Blue Waters that was very good. Personnel very very nice. All the hotels on this strip, the golden mile, are older, so you can't expect lavish and newer like we are used to in the states. They also have a unique technique of making you put your room key in a holder to activate the lights. If you take it out, all the lights will go out until you insert the card again. I think this is pretty smart and saves electricity because all the lights will automatically turn off when you are not in the room. If you want a beach front location, these hotels are fine. I stayed at the Balmoral and the Blue Waters - one night each and found both to be very nice and comfortable. Perfect for the price with a beach front location. Durban is full of people begging for money, so beware of your surroundings, even in "safe" areas. They offer to watch your car or help you pull into the traffic for coins. No matter how much you give them, they beg for more. I would stay again at both.

Busy Durban
Only 2 lifts working we were on 17th floor. Waiting for lift took longer than walking 17 floors. Breakfast waiters were excellent. Some reception ladies excellent, others have a dont care attitude.
