Location great...customer service not so much
While the RIU is a great location; customer service was very hit and miss. We stayed for 5 days and were underwhelmed by customer service. When we arrived, as we checked, another staff member, got annoyed with us, telling me I needed to call Expedia (which wasn't even our booking method) because their system showed a different end date. I showed her our updated confirmation and I had to reassure her it was OK and let the "nice staff" guy keep checking us in. He got so rattled he forgot to give us some basic information about accessing the crown level benefits etc. We got to the room and found they provided only one towel for 2 people...whoops! We ordered room never came. Due to the extreme heat and humidity, we needed to use "same day laundry" service. We turned in a small load at 7:30am. (10am was the cut off time.) It took 2 days. No apologies offered. And the price was changed for more! What?! On a brighter side...although there was no concierge available during our first 2 days, one receptionist was of great help. She recommended and booked a great tour. It was fabulous! Some total positives, the pool staff and outdoor restaurant service was awesome. In addition, the breakfast buffet delicious. So while location, location, location was great...customer service was very inconsistent.

Disappointing all around
I had high hopes for this hotel, particularly after seeing that soccer teams from Central America were making this their home for the UNCAF Cup. It was a let down. Visually it's pretty nice...and that's more or less where it stops. The staff was hit or miss. Some really nice people and some who clearly didn't give a rip. Our shower had mold in it...alot of mold. Enough to make my wife squeemish. The bed sheets were never cleaned (we were there for 11 nights!). We had to call down for refills on our complimentary coffee and water every day because house cleaning did not refill them for us. We had to ask for towels a few nights. The room key stopped working every time we went into a store...which meant that we had to have it replaced 7 out of 11 nights...almost always an inconvenience. The couch was very uncomfortable...slanted downward so it felt like you were falling off of it. The bed was nice but the pillows were as small as I've ever seen...about 8 inches in it could give your head support but not your neck/shoulders. I made complaints to Riu during my stay but it fell on deaf ears. In fact, every time we got a new room key they had issues linking our room to our name. It was apparently under some other guys name...for 11 nights! Frustrating. Also, tipping is optional and not expected in Panama yet alot of the staff were clearly targeting us for tips (estranjero bias). Overall our stay here was quite frustrating.

Exceptional 10.0
RIU Plaza Panama ended up being the best hotel we stayed at in Panama, despite the other hotels being pretty lavish. I was honestly not sure if I should book this hotel for our honeymoon. I simply knew I needed a very nice hotel that could keep my bride happy. After making the final decision, I was astonished right from my very entry to the hotel. There was a young man waiting to take my suitcase inside. As soon as you enter the hotel, you will stop to observe the luxurious lobby and might as well take some pictures. Elias patiently waited with our bags smiling as we took pictures and then checked in. The entire process seemed to be very friendly and they congratulated us on our honeymoon. Elias then took us with our luggage to the 31st floor which was complimentary from the hotel. Our suite was simply amazing with two bathrooms, a nice dining room with complimentary fruits, snacks, and cookies, a jacuzzi, a unique shower, and a pretty impressive bedroom. Let me not forget to mention that the liquid body soap at the hotel is probably the best I've ever had in any hotel (It's awesome!). It was only later that I realized there was also an envelope in the room. I was surprised to find a letter to my wife and I with our names congratulating us on our honeymoon and wishing us a great experience at the hotel. It was also signed by the manager. The fact that the hotel would go out of their way to write such a letter despite the excessive guests they receive really earned their respe

Bring a Gas Mask to this hotel!!! its awful
I was looking forward to staying at a RIU establishment. Beware that this hotel is nothing like the resorts you may be used to on islands such as Jamaica. As soon as you walk into the hotel you are hit with the strongest scent of mildew!!! At first we thought it was just the lobby- but unfortunately when we got off the elevator on the 24th floor to our room- we were slapped with the awful pungent scent again. It smells as if millions of gallons of water were poured onto layers of carpet and just displayed throughout the hotel. Once inside the rooms the same scent hit us. I believe the hotel is aware because we asked for some spray in the bathroom and the worker came in and sprayed it directly on the floor! We told her we just needed it for the air. The breakfast buffet which was included in our stay was AMAZING!! I ate so much great food. I also had the Panamanian buffet dinner one night. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. However I came home and have been having the worst allergies and sinus issues. I know they are due to the overpowering sent of what we believe to be mold and mildew. That scent caused us to wake up in the middle of the night coughing and with stuffy noses. As beautiful as the lobby is and that good breakfast buffet- I could never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Customer Services
The Hotel Stuff, Needs FAIR HOUSING training: Me Being Spanish person from Venezuela , They were making sure if I was a current visitor, every time I went to the breakfast area, they check on me almost twice a day to see if I had the breakfast meal included in my reservation, but they didn't do that with the rest of the white or black looking visitors on the line. One of them made a comment of my family to make sure we don't bring more people to the table. I heard it, I want this comments gets to corporate or the manager and see my concerns. My Name is Renny Teran I did stay on Nov 02,2016 I also paid for an extra bed to my room they did charged me $115 and never added the infant bed, the reason was because my room was small for the bed they have. I lost the money because I wanted to have good vacation, in didn't want to have hard times but is unfair for me to pay for nothing my little brother slept with me in the same small bed while I paid $115 for the extra bed. I would like to hear from some of the manager or supervisor.
