Very nice old inn with abundant charm and a gently rolling countryside feel that makes navigating the halls a challenge after a few pints in the bar. The staff was very friendly and happily offered a recommendation for an indian restaurant across the street. The room was very clean and the bathroom was very modern. Great on site breakfast. The full English breakfast kept me full for a long day of site seeing at Stonehenge. If we’re ever lucky enough to be back in the area we will definitely stay again.

When I checked in, there was only one staff member working on reception and also covering the bar, so waited while they served drink for them to come back. Food was nice in the evening but breakfast was expensive for what I got and it didn't start until 7:30.

The George is a 16C building and our room [107] is in the old section and overlooking the High Street. Parking is free to patrons. Our room had very uneven floors and took some adjusting to. The bed was comfy with TV and radio. The bathroom was smallish with a decent size shower but miniscule hand basin, which was not practical for face washing. There was some noise from passing traffic - but not too bad. The restaurant decor is really good, with comfortable seating and a good menu. We had a good evening meal and breakfast here. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel has a pleasant atmosphere. The beer garden is nice with beautiful hanging baskets. The rooms are adequate if a little compact. Toiletries are provided and are lovely. Toilets in the bar area are clean and contain the same toiletries. The lunch and dinner menu includes gluten free options which was required by my husband. Would return

The refit has clearly cost a lot of money, spent on quality furnishings, public areas and bedrooms. Our bathroom was well presented, with a good shower. Our bedroom was spacious, characterful and well decorated. There was one friendly, efficient member of the waiting team, Briony, but she had been left on duty with brand new, untrained, young staff. The menu was restricted, the steaks were lovely, but the pie was poor. On both evenings we were not offered a dessert menu after main courses. Breakfast service was chaotic, but the full English was okay. Handy for visiting Stonehenge.

Great staff but despite trying were still unable to connect my phone to the Internet. Small single room but old crittall window would not open. Bar shuts early on Sundays and no drinks are available for guests after hours. Good parking spotlessly clean and all amenities provided apart from bathroom freebies such as shampoo sachets etc. These have to be purchased.

Superb hotel, lovely atmosphere, clean, tidy and welcoming. Staff very helpful and friendly. Ample parking, lovely village. Stayed for 4 nights whilst we attended British Superbikes at Thruxton, would definitely stay again. Lovely outdoor seating area with a local singer on one of the nights we stayed. Food was amazing, unfortunately on the 2nd day they had some refrigeration issues so they couldn't offer the whole menu, would have liked to have sampled more. Across the road was an award winning curry house, well wort a visit. We extended our stay for an extra night. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Thank you to all the lovely staff that made our stay fantastic.

The George is an amzing property and an amazing stay-- the staff is so lovely and there are so many wonderful spaces to gather, retreat, sip, savor, and enjoy. It is also rich in "character" - rooms, stairs, floors, and spaces are typical of an establishment that is more than five hundred years old. It's delightful. Amesbury, in case you wonder, is a lovely little English town with a few good restaurants and bakeries, lovely walks, and good bus connections.

All the people that work there are lovely, the room was excellent, and the good reasonably priced and very nice. Salisbury isn't too far from us, and since we enjoy the antique shops, I can see us staying here again.
