I've been staying at this hotel since the 1990s, before it was bought by the corporation that now owns it. Back then it was rundown but still magnificent and *much* cheaper obviously. Thankfully the new owners renovated it rather than knocking it down and building some awful tower. The hotel is clean, quiet, the staff are very nice. Upkeep seems to be an issue though because some of the rooms have gotten rather dingy.
We had reserved a superior room (35 sq.m balcony with sea view). When we arrived they tried to foist a much smaller standard room on the first floor on us. The room was awful. We made a fuss and they finally 'upgraded' us to a 'superior room', still on the first floor and consequently with no balcony. It was very noisy, day and night. It makes me very sad to say this, but I will no longer be staying at the Windsor Palace when I visit Alexandria. It's just not worth the money.
