    Love these old hotels

Stayed for a night before a hiking trip. We were met by the managers in the evening, and then they went home. Had the place to ourselves. Lobby has a nice sitting area where we hung out until bedtime. Our room was in perfect condition. Seemed like it was redone recently. Better maintained than many mid-level chain hotels we have been in. Beautiful old building. I would stay here again.

A Maine gem. The staff/owners could not have been any more accommodating. Helpful and friendly. Quiet, restful sleep. Nice old hotel vibe. Updated and clean rooms.

    The Herbert

Interesting old hotel. Decorated with antiques and posters from long ago. Comfortable but not for travelers who want a lot of amenities. For example, the tv is in the downstairs lounge. There isn’t an elevator and rooms are on the 2nd and 3 rd floors. However the owners are accommodating and helpful.

    Fantastic

What a find! This hotel is over 100 years old and is gorgeous. I was given a personal tour and regaled with its history. You must be willing to step back in time a bit but this hotel is worth a detour from your route.

Very pretty old hotel with antique features. Room was pleasant with private bathroom. The only negative was the bed. It was sagged in the middle and you had to fight a bit to stay out of the dip.
