Getting tired
We've stayed on the Botel before, enjoyed the experience and decided to go back. This time we found ourselves in a room with non movable single beds which were extremely uncomfortable, so we didn't get a lot of sleep and started the new days crippled. Be prepared to hear your neighbours snoring amongst other things. Cosy en-suites where you can easily shower, poop and shave at the same time. However the shower was both hot and powerful, just the thing to massage some life into your back following the nightly battle with the mattresses. Breakfast was plentiful , but you had to be quick off the blocks once the bacon, sausages and eggs were put out as the hungry hoards attacked the long awaited replenishments. If you enjoy bacon cooked to within an inch of its life, this is the place to be. Joking aside it was adequate to set you up for the start of the day. All the staff seemed pleasant and helpful. I like the position of the Botel ,it's relatively quiet with some bars and restaurants. There is a fantastic flea market on Sunday, 5 euros to enter but just leave yourself enough time to get round it all. A short free and regular ferry trip gets you into the centre of the fantastic Amsterdam - watch out for the bicycles though as the do not stop. All in all its not a bad place but after spending 52 long, hard years on this planet , I probably need a little more comfort. However I would recommend the place to my 4 sons. All in all I would

For the novelty of staying on a boat in Amsterdam.
My partner loved this place, I on the other hand did not. So this has been tempered to reflect both of our opinions. Upside: For the price, it was great value. Clean private room and bathroom. Good hot water and water pressure. Very close to central Amsterdam, albeit via ferry, that runs every 30 min on off peak times, & every 15 on peak times. Bar boat was very elegant and relaxing. Downside: Major renovations meant the bar and restaurant were in a boat docked on the other side of the pier, and reception was makeshift behind the old bar. We believed we had booked a double room as that was what was advertised. They advertise both double beds and 2 separate single beds as a double room. (We booked the former, they gave us they later, and then said it was my fault for booking too late, which had been 1 1/2 weeks prior, we later met a couple that had booked the 2 singles but got a double instead.) The front desk staff were rude. They didn't want to be there, didn't want you to annoy them, and seemed like they couldn't care less about the guests or their questions, no recommendations to give when asked. Finally the room keys. They just would not work. They had to reprogram the keys daily as they expired every 24 hours. This happened to many other guests we met.

Interesting hotel with easy access to Amsterdam Ce
We thought the novelty of a Botel would be fun. Check in was not pleasant as the clerk seemed not to care about a number of people waiting to check in. She did not even engage with us to let us know it would be a minute just continued to look at her computer. After finally getting that process complete, we experienced very friendly and engaging staff. The breakfast was very, very nice. The room was very basic which is all we really needed. The free ferry service back and forth to Amsterdam Central Train Station was excellent and reliable, so easy. If you are looking for a room with no frills this is it. Again, we enjoyed the breakfast and the staff, other than our check in gal, were so friendly and helpful.

60th birthday treat
Rooms are advertised as luxury in fact they are extremely basic and no way luxury. The shower was minute with very hot/boiling water. Recommend never to leave children in the shower as the water changes from comfortable to scalding hot. The breakfast was disappointing. Could not watch the TV as the signal was very poor. Their Wifi was down on our stay,The location was good just to catch a ferry to the centre was brilliant, some staff was friendly when I complaint that the Botel had gone down hill and the rooms were not luxury I was told it is a boat and it has windows! I had put a deposit of 20 Euros down to hire a kettle. we had a good weekend and recommend a visit to Amsterdam. Beware booking the transfer shuttle booked with Bookers they never arrived.

Average hotel
Value for money but beware of booking on this site if you would like a double room. We booked 10 months in advance and chose a double bed as a "preference", yet when we arrived we were giving a twin room and the beds couldn't have been further apart. Not particularly ideal for couples. We were lucky enough to be moved when asked in reception but none of our friends were able to. We were told that customers that book direct get first choice of rooms and by booking on partner sites you will be given a twin room. Most of the staff were friendly and although the rooms are outdated and bathrooms are tiny, for the price paid you couldn't really expect much more. Bar on board pretty reasonable and breakfast ok. Would definitely choose to stay in Amsterdam central next time, as can be a pain to get back to the hotel if you want to shower/change etc.
