Not very clean
The bathroom was not well cleaned, short hairs stuck to the floor and walls. Dirty marks on the sink. Paint chipped away from the wall by the sink and paint chips on the sink. The sink is chipped in several places as well. Unpleasant smell in the room, potentially a cleaning product? Opened the windows to try and air it out. Short hairs and a lot of pieces of lint in between the sheets of the bed. Disgusting. The smell of the room and the state of the bed sheets made me feel nauseous. The room is not well lit, but even with the lights off and one curtain closed I can still see particles of something, maybe food? on the floor. The couch cover was not situated well on the couch. It was slipping off. Gave the appearance that previous resident/client/hotel guest had sat there and no one had bothered to fix it. Clearly not cleaned or looked at. Paint chips on all the walls plus not well cleaned or wiped off. The mirror in the bathroom was quite clean but the larger one in the room was less so. The appliances had not been dusted. When you sit on the bed and try to rest against the head board, the bed rolls away from the wall and there was a receipt there and it was very clear that no one had cleaned under the bed for a while. Dirt particles, etc. Hallways and stairs are narrow. The room was warm which was lovely. Arrived in the early afternoon. Very quiet. Receptionist was pleasant. The wifi was of good quality, was able to watch youtube videos with no buffering.

The owner was very nice but the location claimed to have air conditioning. They failed to mention that they have control and that it isn't turned on. I had to walk to an electronics store and buy a fan. I was told by the gentleman working there that it isn't that hot. How can you decide what's hot and what's not for people? It was 88 degrees in a place kept hot and was not comfortable. Should take down the sign that you offer air conditioning. The other lady was never at the desk and left the front door open. What is the purpose of having a key to the lobby if the door will remain open. The good stuff is the cleaning staff was great, always had fresh towels. That's about it.

It was really gross!
When we first arrived, it was late (which I advised them ahead of time) and the woman at the front desk was rude and not welcoming at all. When we got to the room, it was very dirty. There was a vacuum outside in the hallway but I think it was there to mock us as decoration only as the carpets had NOT been vacuumed. The bathroom was so gross that we used other arrangements as much as possible. It had "private" hairs all over the bathroom floors, maybe they wiped down the sink and top of the toilet but nothing else. The bathtub was nice but there was so much mold on the tiles, we didn't want to touch anything. The bed had hair in it so I just told myself it was from the cleaning lady. My son refused to pull out the couch bed due to the state of the rest of the room so he slept on top of a blanket on top of the cushions. I should have asked for my money back and went somewhere else but again it was too late to find anything and on the night of the Mayweather/McGregor fight there was nothing available so we endured. It was by far the worst place I have ever been to!!!!

The building is historic which makes it unique. I think they are old converted dorms for McGill university. Anyhow. The building could use some work. I paid extra for a private closet. (Washroom that looks like a closet?). But the shower did not work. The mini fridge is.a good addition but leaked all over my medication. I’m not sure this qualifies for 2 stars. I’ve been in better two star hotels. Regardless. It’s ok for the price and a traveller on a budget. It could do well with a few repairs. Also. If you can’t climb stairs. This is not the place for you. There are 3 floors. Confusing layout and no elevator.

Worst part of my trip was the hotel
I am extremely disappointed with this hotel, and will never come again. The worst thing that happened to me was that in the hotel parking lot, someone shattered my right-view mirror. I understand the parking is free and it is at your own discretion to park there but it was so badly damaged that I could not use it for my trip home from Montreal to Burlington. It made it quite difficult to drive as I was essentially impaired in that regard. I came on a Friday and checked it both Friday and Saturday nights before going to sleep. I checked Monday morning and that is what I came to a completely damaged mirror. The concierge was sympathetic, but the owner did not call me back as she said he would. I called and spoke to a man and he said very dryly there was nothing he would do, despite the fact that I told him it would cost me about 300 dollars to get it fixed from Canadian Tire. SECONDLY, the hotel claims to have a complementary breakfast on their website, there was none. I was told all along Sherbrooke there are places to eat.... THIRDLY, the suggested tourists spots were misleading because it kept on saying certain things were free, but if you look at the museums they suggested it was only free for children. FOURTHLY, I understand the hotel is older and that is fine, but the plugs did not seem safe at all and I don't think they would have passed a safety inspection.
