Awesome location, close to all the main sights. Very clean room (though a little smelly) and our room was relatively quiet. The owners were totally lovely, spoke a little english and were so accommodating to our needs (my partner wanted to watch the grand prix and they were very helpful). Our only problems were the bed (extremely squeaky and not in good condition) and the extremely small bathroom (we are small people and whenever we had to use the toilet, our knees would bang the sink). However, these were all small things and in any case, we were rarely in the room and at this price and location, we could hardly complain. People may want to note that there are no elevators, which may be a problem if you have heavy luggage or cannot walk up many flights of stairs.

I had tried to change my plans & stay out of Bordeaux after reading poor reviews of this city, especially of dodgy people hanging around the stn. Glad I didn't! Don't stay near the station if you like nice surroundings & want to see the best of elegant old Bordeaux.! I was approached by a man when buying my tram ticket, I said "Non, merci!" to whatever he was offering me & pretended to know where I was going!!! Beware looking as tho you are using the machine for the first time! Line C Tram from stn to mid- city (Quinconces) is just outside the stn, with easy English ticket machine option. In poor weather, or if very tired, your ticket, valid for an hour, will take you even closer to the Hotel de France, on another tram, Line B from Quinconces, toward Place Gambetta. Alight at first stop along Cours de L'Intendence & walk 5 mins. Pedestrianised main streets, where walkers & joggers share with slow trams, are wide, busy & well lit at night. The wonderful Grand Theatre, set on a huge open square, is just 8 mins walk from this tiny hotel. Friendly staff even left the front door open for my late homecoming after the ballet. Voila! Perfect for 2 nights.

The Hotel de France was in an excellent location, very close to the beautiful sights in the old quarter. As a result, however, it was very noisy. Since our room had no air conditioning, we had to keep the window open which let in all the noise. However, the room was very clean and the hotel staff were incredibly lovely and helpful. Overall, would recommend and return - but bring earplugs.

The property location was excellent, however the room smelled terrible. There could be a sewage issue in the building. We returned to our room after a morning walk to find Staff in our room prior to checkout removing bed linens & beginning cleanup for next guests. We had to request they leave so we could pack our belongings.

Spent one night here, superb location in city centre, several cafes on doorstep and only a short walk to the heart of the main eating and drinking action. Also v easy to get to all the sights, right beside tram. Room simple but clean and really v friendly owner who was very welcoming.would recommend.

I like the location. It is close to the historic town, restaurants and shops. I did not like that there is no elevator to go up to the room and there is no AC. You will have a small fan. The room was very clean and the lady at the lobby was nice.

Great location, friendly staff, good value. However the room was very small, and it is up several flights of stairs which might be an issue for some people. Breakfast was indifferent and you can better for less (and more atmosphere) in any local café.
