Not what you pay for
I booked under the impression from my confirmation email that we had a twin room. My business partner is heavily pregnant and required this!! Upon arrival we were poorly treated by staff at the front counter who refused to accommodate our booking request for a twin room and expected us to share the very small version of what he explained was a queen sized bed. He then suggested we book a second room (in addition to the original booking) and when we said no he offered the roll away bed as an option and then charged for this inconvenience despite pleading our case that we booked a twin and needed this requirement. I have since returned home to confirm we did in fact book a twin and am furious we were firstly treated in such a way (expecting a pregnant woman to share a bed and then force us to pay for a roll away when we booked a twin!). Common courtesy, if no twins were available, was to offer the roll away for free. The roll away had no padding on the springs and we had to request the room attendant to bring a blanket, doona and further padding to cover the mattress after he confirmed all roll away mattress were in such poor state. I am appalled at the way we were treated. The rudeness of the one staff member checking us in was abhorrent and we will never stay here again. Parking costs were outrageous and the designer catered only for small skinny vehicles (maybe a bike!) to negotiate the ramps

Poor 2.0
We checked after a long journey to find our room had a large wet stain on the floor from the bed to the bathroom. It was still damp. After informing front desk, we were told that the hotel was 100% booked so we couldn’t move to a different room. A few hours later, the stain started to smell and it was in the path from the bed to the bathroom making it inconvenient to walk through each time. We asked for someone to take a look at it and someone from housekeeping came up but just stood there staring at it. We asked if there was a way to dry it quick but she was clueless and couldn’t come up with a solution. It’s really not right to have your customers accept a room in this kind of condition. The lady at the front desk apologized but we really just had to suck it up and live with this for the night. We wanted to get a refund but was told we couldn’t be refunded because it was booked through Expedia. So, no fix, no solution and we were stuck living in a room with a smelly, moist floor and a wedding to get ready for the next day. There were other things that added to our frustration as well. Let’s just say that we were continually let down (eg: we were promised a better and bigger room the next day but instead got moved to the same style room.) Will never book Mercure again after this terrible stay! I did want to thank two people that made a difference in the end: Sam and Gail from the restaurant. After a string of disappointments, the way they took care of us was a bright spot.

Very good 8.0
Excellent value for money. This is a solid 3 star hotel. I book it every time I'm in Melbourne for the following reasons: 1) location -- right across the street from the QVM where all manner of goodness can be got; I buy groceries there and eat very well and relatively cheaply all week. 2) It is also the last stop located on the free tram circuit. I travel throughout the CBD for FREE! The stop is right across the road. 3) Reliable quality; I know the bed and linens are good, showers clean, and frig, hot plate and kettle always work! 4) Staff are helpful and pleasant. 5) The lift to the 4th floor takes you to parking lot and down the other side are a number of car rental places. Easy peasy. They have negotiated 30$ per day for parking for guests (a bit less than usual). 6) I can usually get a suite for 70-80$ USD per night. That is absolutely outstanding for a world class city -- all within walking distance. There are hundreds of hotels to choose from.... I've been happy with these guys and so keep going back. P.S. the entrance is a bit weird: Narrow, off a side street, and easy to miss. Don't let that dissuade you. The hotel is just fine and the area is very safe.

Nope
The bad; Paint falling off the ceiling in the shower. No light in the shower. Windows & mirrors not cleaned properly. The back of the bathroom door not cleaned at all, multiple makeup covered finger print marks on it. Minimal storage in the room. You could hear people walking in corridor to the rooms (even if they were trying to be quiet). You could hear people walking/living in the rooms above and next to us - like there was no real barrier between rooms. The air con filter was covered in 1-2cms of dust. Air con didn’t work work properly due to that (I ended up cleaning the filters (washing and drying them) so the air con would work. The card reader on the elevators was hit and miss if it was going to work.even though I booked the hotel 3mths & paid for it 1mth in advance they still didn’t have the correct details or paperwork ready to go and even after updating the info during check in, it was still incorrect during the stay, hindering access to things ie: restaurant etc The avg; The buffet breakfast was ok, $18pp for all you can eat scrambled eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomato, cereal, toast, two types of juices and some of the worst cofffee ever. The restaurant was only open for breakfast, room service menu was boring and way over priced. The good; .close to a tram stop (50mtrs). Is in the free tram zone. Has plenty of restaurants near by and some shops. Is 100mtrs to Queen Vic Markets. I got the room at an amazingly cheap price. Won’t stay here ever again

Disappointed by hotel management
Before staying in Mercure Therry Street we stayed in Jaspar Hotel, went for a great ocean trip and unfortunately Jasper was booked when we came back to Melbourne, so we choose Mercure as the location is same. The Check-in staff and as well the check-out staff were friendly - especially Joe helped us with keeping the bags on the check-out day. The location is perfect, especially for CBD, Victoria market and China Town and the rooms are clean and have all you need. Yet i wouldn't recommend to stay in Mercure but to stay in Jasper as the prices are similar as well the location and rooms are. But to be honest we were disappointed by the management of the hotel or maybe it's even a Mercure Hotel group issue. So the internet was lousy - even to send a Whatsapp pic to your family it took minutes for it to be processed. Free water bottles atleast two a day were not provided - for me in 4* and above a must and just a sign off courtesy (btw if you ask for it they tell you that you can buy 2 AUD ea). Also refill of shampoo was not done properly. Parts of the room looked used like the toilet roll holder - parts I wouldn't mind much but it's just another bad point. For the price and value you get other options where you feel better treated as costumer
