Friendly, helpful staff & excellent location
We flew in to Montreal on a Friday evening for a cruise the next day. The hotel was an 18 minute uber ride from the airport. It is in the perfect location, only a couple of blocks from Notre Dame, and a 10 minute walk from the cruise terminal. On Friday evening, after checking in, we had dinner in the hotel restaurant. The waiter was a friendly guy. We were late for the evening reception, so we were given the drink tickets, plus an extra one, to enjoy with our dinner. Our waiter personally made the mixed drinks for us. Food was good, just a couple of pizzas. I spoke with the two young ladies at the front desk. They were really friendly, and extremely helpful. They seemed more than happy to help regarding places to see and locations, which is a plus for guests. We were able to walk to Notre Dame Basilica in the evening, and the pictures of the square there are fabulous.Then, we walked down to the waterfront, which was bustling with activity. We walked quite a bit, and enjoyed ourselves immensely. We slept well. The beds, linens and towels were comfortable and clean, as was the room. Our son enjoyed having his own space in the living area. The rooms are very large, as are the bathrooms. There is a kitchenette area, with microwave, refrigerator and freezer. Next morning, we enjoyed a wonderful, large breakfast in the hotel, which is part of the package. Then, we spent a few hours touring the old town. We checked out at noon & walked to the ship. Perfect place to stay!

It was OK. A couple of front desk employees seemed annoyed with any questions I had. Check in area is small and inconveniently in the way of the entrance when just 3 or 4 people or 1 or 2 families are waiting in line. Hotel is older, but clean, and in a great location within the city. I like the breakfast and the complimentary drinks at the bar. I was excited that I was upgraded from a King Suite to a Premium Suite, top floor. What I found out the hard way is that it was actually a premium "Studio" suite, so it was a significantly smaller room, a tiny bathroom, smaller queen bed, smaller everything. The toilet ran, the Jacuzzi tub turned on randomly during early morning hours, and the safe didn't work initially. A bit of bad luck I guess, but it was frustrating. My mentioning this and asking if I could be switched to a regular room was met with annoying looks and just "I'm sorry about that". I also had left a package at the front desk for a colleague to pick up the next morning, clearly labeled with his name etc, and found out that he was told there was no package for him when he checked out. I went down a little later that morning and asked them to check for the package, and they also told me it wasn't there. I asked them "can you check the office room right behind the check-in counter"? And of course it was in there right in plain sight. Frustrating.

We have stayed at Embassy Suites in other cities, and this is our least favorite. First, one of the two rooms was not ready at the check-in time, and we had to wait until 4:30, which is 1 1/2 hour later than the 3pm check-in time. Their excuse was "House keeping is slow today." No apology, either. Also, the staff members at the front desk were not friendly. One staff member was actually rude. When is checked in, he said "Would you like a bottle of water," which I could not hear. When I asked him to repeat, he said slowly, "a bo-ttle of wa-ter?" as if he was annoyed. The behavior flunked the most basic courtesy 101, and gave a very bad impression of the hotel, and Canadians since they are the first people you meet in Canada. Thirdly, a "suite" room does not have any utensils regardless of a huge refrigerator and cooking appliances. No pots, no pans, no dishes, no forks, no knives----No nothing! Fourth, the breakfast was not up to the level of other Embassy Suites. Few varieties of food, inconvenient arrangement, unfriendly cook----Does this hotel have any friendly staff members? Everyone looked as if they did not want to be there. OK, to be fair, I will mention pros. The location was very nice. Just one block from a Metro station, and a couple of blocks from Old City. The room was large and clean. Overall, I trusted the name of Embassy Suites, but this hotel proved me wrong. They need courtesy training for staff members, and basic hotel management.

This is our third room at Embassy Suites over the last 9 or so days and the THIRD TIME we have had problems with our beds. In our first room, we did NOT have the proper sheets or blankets for the sofa bed. We found this out at 12:30AM. We called the front desk and they sent up the proper sheets and blankets but we made the bed ourselves. The next day, the manager apologized and was very kind, but when we went to our next room we STILL didn't have our proper towels, shampoo and/or bed sheets for the sofa bed. Three days later, after a great stay in Quebec City, we are back at Embassy Suites and it is 12:30AM once again. This time, after we noticed we DID NOT have the proper bed sheets for the sofa bed and/or enough towels, we contacted the front desk early and had them sort everything out. All should be good right? Well, we were about to go to sleep when we took off the blankets for the queen bed and noticed that the bottom sheet did NOT fit it at all. In fact, it did not even cover the bottom 50-60 cm of the bed. ONCE AGAIN, we found ourselves calling the front desk and asking for the proper sheets and ONCE AGAIN, we had to make the bed properly. Is this the Hilton? The restaurant staff, the concierge, and the front desk staff have all been very friendly, but the housekeeping is riddled with INCOMPETENCE. Terribly disappointing!

Just disappointing and tired hotel.
I've stayed here 4 or 5 times for a specific event across the road, the event moved, but I stayed here anyway, as I liked the rooms. This time was disappointing. The room (416) was just tired and needed a referb, cracks in the bathroom ceiling, mould on the grout and sealer, and housekeeping, no one cleaned the toilet for 3 days, I reported this each day, the bathroom things weren't replaced, at no point in my 5 day stay did the jacuzzi bath get a clean/swill. It was hit and miss if the towels they took away for replaced. The main phone in the room didn't work, there was supposed to be English and French info in the room (room service menus etc...) but only French. Not the fault of the hotel, but there's roads works next to the place, heavy machinery from 7am and went on all day, I reported it each day - the evening before I was leaving early the next morning, I was offered a room move, I'm a little surprised this wasn't offered on day 1. Good things. Room service people were great, food was great (basic, but just what you need for a quick meal) cheap too. And I would have said the manager was great, but the things (bill adjustments I was offered), didn't actually make it to the bill, or even any notes on the system to show the things I was offered, were actually offered, and then I had an argument with the check out guy about it. Just disappointing for a hotel of this caliber and a Hilton hotel at that. I'll be in the Westin or InterContinental next time. :(
