No one was at the front desk during check in. had to call someone who wasn’t even working. took 30 minutes. refrigerator was unplugged and there was no hot water at all. sheets were not clean and toilet barley flushed.

Checking in, the person behind the counter was informative about the property but never made eye contact. Upon entering the room we found the garbage can full of beer cans and empty cigarette packs. There was a large stain on the chair. During the night there became a strong cat urine smell. The bed was not bad but made a terrible noise when sat on.

Staff was very friendly. Room was messy. Floor wasn’t vacuumed, the bed was covered in hairs, the bathroom has dead bugs on floor and looked as though multiple people used the tub and wasn’t clean. Tv only had like 10 channels (not a biggie). If you are looking for kind staff, they have that. If you are looking for a clean room they don’t have that.

When I arrived to check in the front desk person was not onsite, so the house keeper was able to get me a key to my room. The room was clean but smelled like cigarette smoke and it was a non-smoking room. It ended up giving me a migraine. The following day I was leaving and went to check out and the front desk person was not there again and I ended up waiting for 20 minutes for her to show up.

I can not even begin to tell you how filthy our room was. It was late and our other options was to sleep in the car.... which I probably would have gotten better sleep. I did run to the local grocery store and bought Clorox spray, rags and cleaning gloves and wipe down every surface I could. You don’t want to know what the rags looked like afterwards. I wish I would have taken pictures of the rag after I wiped down things. The front desk clerk didn’t seem to care, but he wasn’t caring about much. I think he just got through smoking a bowl. COVID 19 couldn’t survive in the room, the bugs would have killed it. Seriously the door did not close tightly so we had unwelcome guest that crawled in.

I have stayed at the John Day location in the past, and past stays were marginal, too. Aside from bugs everywhere, there were either food or blood stains on and around the toilet. The surface of the room was clean but the room had not been vacuumed. If previous stays averaged a 2.5, this night was closer to a 1 out of 5. It was the only option at the time, and I will try and avoid this motel in the future.
