Good Value in Local Neighborhood Nr Transportation
We stayed for nine nights at Island Pacific Hotel. We were a family of two adults and three children and requested (and received) two adjoining/connected Harbourview Rooms. We received a free cot for the kids' room which was a great addition. The Handy smartphone (which serves as a WiFi hotspot) worked great and made it unnecessary to get a local SIM card. Overall we enjoyed our stay there and thought it was good value for money. Hotel service was consistent with our expectations. The hotel rooms are fairly small but had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We did not eat the breakfast buffet nor did we use the pool/gym. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is a very local area where many shops sell dried seafood. We generally used public transportation -- the tram stopped a block from the hotel and was a fun way to see Hong Kong Island. The MTR was our preferred way of getting around to most of the city -- the entrance to the MTR station is only a couple of blocks away from the hotel but you have a modest walk underground to get to the train, which is why we preferred the tram for short trips. When we took taxis they had no trouble finding the hotel. The flip side to being in a very local neighborhood is that it was easy to find inexpensive alternative services nearby -- we took our laundry to Sunshine laundry on 2nd Street and it was ready same-day; we purchased fruit & yogurt at a nearby Wellcome and fresh-baked goods at a nearby bakery (Hamburg).

Not worth the price, won't go back
The room I stayed at was very dated, like something from the 90s. Everything looked and felt old. The mattress was way too hard. I didn't sleep well at all. There were old stains on the sheets, and there was a burnt cigarette mark too on my daughter's sheet. Unbelievable they were still being used. The shower was inside the bathtub (a feature of old hotel rooms) which isn't convenient if you're traveling with elderly guests. The shower head was fixed to the wall, couldn't be adjusted or moved - when the water pressure was weak at times, it became a source of frustration whenever we used the shower! On the second day after we got back from sightseeing, there were still strands of hair on the side of the bathtub even though the room had been made up. The cartoons on disney cable channel were in Cantonese (which my kids don't understand) and I wasn't able to change the audio to English because "the function isn't supported". Overall it wasn't a pleasant stay considering that it wasn't cheap. There are cheaper and better hotels in that locality, I simply decided to give Island Pacific Hotel a shot because my preferred hotel wasn't available. A bad move.

Good location with plenty of food; great service.
Lovely location with plenty of (delicious too!) food places & convenience stores in close vicinity (downstairs ~5 min walk). Vicinity has good vibe / feels safe/ character; some dried goods store around (not as many as the Sheung Wan area), eateries. Very close to Sai Yun Ping MTR ~ 5 min walk. Complimentary airport shuttle bus from Hon Kong station to the hotel makes this hotel convenient to get to. Hotel lobby is beautiful but rooms are indeed tired looking as other reviews have highlighted. Room reeked of smoke; we called the front desk immediately - the staff was apologetic and extremely efficient - she prepared a different for us immediately with the keycard ready on hand when we got back down to the lobby. Room was basic, a little old but definitely clean & sufficient. Decent size for HK - but big luggage might be a problem (we had 2 small carry-on size luggage). Shower had good water pressure ! We had the city view so not much to see. Bed wasn't the most comfortable but I liked that there were two pillows for each guest with different hardness/softness. Cleaning staff were friendly; concierge staff were helpful in informing us which complimentary shuttle buses would take us where / timings etc. I would be happy to return to this hotel so stay primarily for 1) location & 2) service.

Didn't realy enjoyed this stay...
We love Hong Kong but this time our stay was a bit disappointing..The room was small and not very convenient The view was OK.Stuff was helpful despite of poor English. We have read other people feedback before booking this place re hotel area and it sounded nice-"lot's of restaurants, night life"..It was Friday night when we have arrived to hotel and we were disappointed-what night life?for WHOM?May be for local people only, but not for the tourists..We were looking for place to dine and couldn't find anything suitable, local restaurants don't have menu in English and nobody can speak English at all..Finally gave up,found and asked European man,he gave us advise to take a taxi and go to the mall,we went there and had a dinner in Thai restaurant-:(((Boring..Not atmospheric.. We really wanted to have a local food..not Thai being in Hong Kong:((Would be nice for the restaurant owners to speak English -at least couple of basic words-or at least again-to have a menu in English..Or with a pictures of dishes..

Clearly exceeded my expectations of a mid-range Hong Kong hotel. Staff were multi-lingual, very helpful, courteous and kind. They offered to clear out my child's soiled diapers. I just needed to leave them outside my door. The full range of room service was available. The only things worth improving, which are in my mind only optional, are the shower and the age of the furniture. My shower head was fixed to the wall. It would be better if there could be an option to take it down. Also, the cabinets and tables could be newer. Also, some of the less-used items were a little dusty, like the iPod charger/radio/alarm clock (I could not really figure out what the white oblong machine was). However, all these were really optional and did not get in the way of an excellent and comfortable stay after a day of pounding the streets of Hong Kong.
