Hotel Villa Sonia

What a find! Booked 24 hrs in advance and found a great discount on this site. Great room with a HUGE patio overlooking Etna. This "old girl" of a hotel is supremely located - Taormina prices would have been double of this lovely hotel. Valet parking. No worries a local bus will take you down to Taormina - you will not want to drive once you get up to Villa Sonia. We had three excellent meals especially lunch overlooking Etna - truly memorable experience.

We loved this hotel in an excellent location. We had a lovely deluxe room with great views of Etna from the balcony. Close to Castelmola and a short bus ride to Taormina. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast nice , didn't sample the restaurant during our short stay but the menu did look good.

We were not sure what to expect based on the mixed reviews but our expectations were more than exceeded!! Our room was large and sparkling clean, the view from our private balcony was incredible, and the old-world charm of the whole property made us feel like we had stepped back in time. The drive up the mountain was narrow and winding, yes, but that's half of the fun of a vacation in Italy - enjoy it! It was just a short walk to the little town above with amazing food and panoramic views from the castle. Breakfast was wonderful and the front desk staff were so friendly and helpful. We wished for another day there so we could fully enjoy relaxing by the pool. Highly recommend a stay here.

Very friendly staff. Location is fabulous. The views from the terrace over mount etna are amazing. It’s just a few minutes walk uphill to Castelmola where there are lovely restaurants and the most unique Bar Turrisi.

Villa Sonia is a quirky hotel full of character. You have to look past the antiquated plumbing and air condition to appreciate the individual charm of every room and area.

Gorgeous traditional hotel, fabulous location.

Great stay, fabulous location, staff i credibly friendly and helpful. Mount Etna visible from the breakfast terrace, Sicilian barbecue evening on Monday 23rd Sep absolutely brilliant! With musicians and dancers - Barbecue and buffet tables loaded with typical Sicilian foods and wine. Our room also had a balcony overlooking the terrace with a lovely mountain view.

The view of Etna was beautiful. The pool area was lovely, with a bar and a view of Etna. Terrific old radios displayed along the corridors.

The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. The property is beautiful and very easy to access from Taormina and Castelmola. The rooms are large, well appointed, and very clean although they could use a little update/refresh (but that's to be expected in Sicily). My only complaints are: the pillows were quite stiff, the shower was very small, and I would have appreciated more vegan friendly options at breakfast. Very small issues considering the affordability of the hotel, the great staff, and the incredible views!
