If you have pet allergies, you may want to pass.
The check in and amenities were fine. What I did not know is that they allow pets and they don’t restrict pet rooms to a certain hall or wing as I’ve seen at other hotels. (I found out when I asked at checkout.) Our room smelled funny and since we got in at night, I didn’t think much of it. In the morning I heard a dog bark and then it dawned on me that the smell was of possibly cat urine. About an hour later, my daughter asked if we had Zyrtec because she’s was exhibiting strong allergy issues. She is highly allergic to cats and mild to dogs. It’s unfortunate that we won’t be able to stay there again as the Front desk clerk mentioned They don’t restrict pets to certain rooms.

    Happy Customer
I've stayed at the Grandstay in Ames a few times now and will continue to. The rooms are really nice and large and I love the 2 bedrooms and the kitchenette. During my most recent stay, the bathroom tile was loose but that could have just happened prior to me getting there. Regardless, the employees are always great from check in to maintenance. I would recommend it.

    Nice Space but Run Down
We had a 2 queen suite which was really nice to have separate spaces for sleeping. The hotel is run down, though.

the Grandstay was a grand stay.
This hotel was great. It was really clean, especially in the bathroom where I do put a lot of opinions in my review. Although, I don't care for carpet in a room, this room had new carpet which was okay. No stains were on the carpet in the hall and in the room. I always look to see if drapes are dusty also. I am very hard on giving a good review. The breakfast was a take and go breakfast, which was okay, especially with COVID. Overall, I would stay here again with my family.

    Will Stay Again
The suite was very nice and made for an excellent way to visit comfortably with local family members. Pool area was out of commission for much of my 3-day visit but this is not unusual in hotels due to the need to maintain properly especially during Covid. Will stay here again on future visits to my hometown.

    nice stay at GrandStay
My husband I spent 2 nights at the GrandStay Hotel in Ames. We really liked the room set-up and size. We were disappointed that there were no wine glasses in the kitchen and that the Queen bed was more like a Full.
