Go for the pool!
Except for the valet parking situation, my husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Kimpton Canary Hotel. The room felt spacious and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom could stand some updated decor and a couple more towel hooks, but it was clean which is all that really matters. We LOVED the rooftop pool, by far the hotel’s best feature. The staff at the front desk was friendly and check-in/check-out was quick. And, the hotel was in a great location for walking around downtown Santa Barbara. My only wish is that there had been a cheaper self-service parking option in addition to the valet parking service. The valet was expensive ($38/night) and took forever - we usually waited at least 10 minutes downstairs on top of the 10 minutes we gave them between calling for our car and leaving the room. They were also incredibly disorganized and weren’t moving cars fast enough so if they would bring our car around to the front (and sometimes they wouldn’t and we had to walk halfway to the parking garage to get to where they brought our car, defeating the purpose of valet parking), there were cars blocking the way out and they just shrugged their shoulders or said we’d have to wait even longer for them to move all the cars. One time we needed to leave for a dinner reservation so we ended up having to back out onto a really busy street. Super unsafe! I hope they hire more valets to park cars because minus the parking it was a really great place to stay.

Good
A bit disappointed but overall good
First of all the staff upon check in were very lovely! The valet brought up our luggage but forgot a few things and it did take them a while to bring those items up the second time around. Our room was very pretty. I opted for a king suite the view of the parking lot was a little funny to me but still very nice. The air conditioner in our room never got cold. Not even close to cool. It was a surprisingly hot few days in Santa Barbara so we really did not sleep well either night we were there because the room was so darn hot and stuffy. Such a bummer because the bed was really nice and extremely comfortable. Housekeepers never cleaned our room which was a huge disappointment. I even left the card on the door for 6 hours which states I wanted my room clean. Never happened. My hair straightener would not turn on and I was so thankful the hotel keeps nice hair styling tools on site. I rang down and they brought one up immediately! Which really saved me as I had an event I was short on time getting ready for. The in room hair dryer worked very well and I like that they include full size bottles of product in the shower. So much better than wasting all those tiny plastic bottles. Great selection of snacks and drinks in the mini bar! I recommend the hotel to a few of my friends who all stayed there during the same time. There were about 8 of us total. Went up to the rooftop pool and ordered a few rounds of drinks for every one. Took over an hour to get.

Good
My husband and I stayed with our two pups for one night here for our anniversary trip. We were so looking forward to staying at Kimpton because of all the amazing reviews but the whole experience was very underwhelming for a 500$ night room. Since this is an Expedia VIP access hotel, as a VIP member, I was expecting some VIP experience but there was none. Free WiFi is not really “free” since it is included in an additional fee you pay at the hotel. Parking was 38$ and there was an additional fee that covers the “free” WiFi, access to the gym next door and some other minor stuff. I requested for dog bowls two days before we arrived at the hotel through Expedia message but there was no response. So I had to ask again during check-in. And they kept forgetting about us so I had to ask for at least 3 times before someone brought over some bowls for our pups. The room was a bit dated, the floor was not clean at all so I did some cleaning myself. There was not much ventilation in the bathroom. We stayed on the 5th floor, facing the main street. The noise from the street was okay but the AC fan inside was very noisy. Pros: - super fast internet speed. It was almost as fast as what we got at home. We were very impressed - dogs stay for free. - walking distance to all the restaurants and stuff in downtown. Overall, it was an okay hotel for its price. Maybe if we splurged and booked a better tier room, we would have received better service.

Very good
The hotel was nice and clean, the staff very friendly and helpful. The hot tub was the smallest hot tub I've ever seen and the pool was only 3 feet deep so you had to be on your knees to be completely submerged into the water. The bathroom in the room had double doors similar to the door on the closet, so there was not much privacy if you had to be in there and someone was in the room. There was a large crack between the double doors of the bathroom and you could literally look into the room while sitting on the toilet. Also, there was no fan in the bathroom but the windows to the room opened so you could air it out after a shower. It was nice to be able to walk out on State Street and have lots of restaurants to choose from. Be aware of the overnight parking fee ($35) if you choose to use their valet and they have a facility fee and tax on the facility fee, so plan on spending another $55 or so a night. I didn't feel comfortable parking my car there on the street overnight. Overall, the hotel was nice and the location was very convenient

Very good
We were upgraded to a King Suite. Really nice. The hide-a-way mattress was dirty so they gave up a roll-a-way bed instead. Very nice room. Room a little tired, coffee maker didn't work properly nor did the lights for the desk. Minor negatives. No noise from any other room. I would stay at this hotel again. Friendly staff and excellent customer service!
