Exceptional 10.0
Good and central
The hotel is very good. The location is central, with a lot of cafes and restaurants nearby. Also the Manchester Central Conference Centre is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The service was a bit so and so. I ordered a wake up call for my first morning. The call never came. Luckily I had also set my own alarm so I still made my early morning appointment. I mentioned that at the reception when leaving for my appointment. They took my room number and apologized. I also booked a newspaper and a wake up for my second morning. That worked as expected. The service at the bar was also not especially good. I ordered and got my drink without any issues. While having that, I had a further read of the cocktail list. Once I had finished, I raised my hand to get the bartenders attention. Instead of coming to my table to ask what I wanted, he just shouted from behind the bar: Another one? I was not impressed at all, but there was nothing else to do than shout my question across the room. He shouted the answer back across the room. There was no excuse for this as the bar was very quiet. There was a group of 4 people at one table and myself. It got a bit busier about half an hour later. I observed the barman and noticed that his level of service differed substantially between customers. He was attentive to some, and paid close to no attention to others. The room was great. It was very quiet even though the hotel is on a busy street. It was also nice to have a bath in the room.

Needs a spruce-up
I wanted to like this hotel. Family run, nice and central, good ratings. It was easy enough to find (although insider knowledge helped - I'd hate to drive there for the first time in Manchester!) and Jayson on reception was really helpful. However, as soon as we got in the room things went down hill. The bathroom hadn't been cleaned - half used shampoo and dirty towels. This was promptly sorted so service is certainly good. The room was a decent size and in OK condition, but the main thing that strikes you is how dated the whole place felt. Key cards that take several seconds to register, lifts you actually have to insert the card to activate rather than just scan (and often several times before it recognised it) and generally the furniture, while in decent condition, was out of the 80s. The bed wasn't great, far too hard and the pillows the type that look nice and plump but as soon as you put your hear on them the filling decides is has other places to be. Breakfast was reasonable. Service was a little slow, around 15 minutes to get eggs florentine but without the promised spinach. Decent buffet selection, acceptable quality but nothing special. For the price I'd recommend it, just don't think because it's 4-star you are getting quality.

A few small things
My experience was generally good but I few major points that made it an irritating visit: The breakfast was probably the worst I’ve ever had in this country. I didn’t go down late but for £10 I expect better quality. I came back from a day out to find my door wide open and no one to be found. I was told the cleaners had just finished but they had clearly forgotten about the room and if I hadn’t come back early I have no doubt that it would have remained open all evening and my passport and laptops were in the room, amongst other valuables. I expected something more than a brief sorry for this. My access card stopped working every single day. After a long day I don’t want to have to join a massive queue of people checking in, just to get my card reactivated. It’s these silly little things that really sour a visit and could have been so easily avoided. A real shame as this hotel had a lot of potential.

Poor 2.0
Very poor services
Poor services and management. Your hotel has no intention to listen customer requests. We made reservation via hotels.com and marked remarks that we expect upper floor is given. Also, we voiced out during check in when we saw you assigned ground floor rooms to us. However, your staff insisted Not to make changes and asked us to look. One room is near exit and car park. Another room has to go through a fire corridor door and separately locates there (your hotel arrange this room to my daughter who is just teenager). After further communication, your hotel agreed changing rooms on first floor only. Poor experience for check out arrangement. My daughter check out on day earlier and she requested late check out AND PAID in advance. Your staff asked her to pay again during check out and did not allow us to go back another room (which stay one more night and paid). After further communication AGAIN, we were told it was system error so your staff made it wrong. Should a four star hotel offer such level of services ?

Do not believe it is a 4 star hotel
I do not know what constitutes a 4 star hotel in Manchester but this is not one,no drinking water in room or even a small biscuit for a cup of tea when I asked about it was told only executive rooms got water,by the way this is tap water put in a bottle, not a wee biscuit that B and B's even give you. Hotel.com had down city views for our room and when I asked was basically laughed at about city views and not 100% sure but swore guy said maybe a sea view.I enclose picture of our view and plaster Hotel clean enough but a plaster lay on our floor from we landed till we left and it was not ours and room had dust and cobwebs as I said not 4 star.Don't think top of bed or edge of dressing table ever dusted
